N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Vicki:  There are shuttle services from the airport to hotels but no service sponsored by a hotel from the airport.  Would you consider renting a car?  That is the most economical route to go since the taxis are so expensive.  There are deals out there on the car rentals.  If you can't do that, then contact Sarge  847 212 0246 and use his shuttle service.  It is a little cheaper than the others and he gives wonderful service to the Navy families.  You can text him or call him.

Beachmom:  SO glad you called the hotel back and ask for the Navy Grad rate and saved the $100!

Does anyone know a motel that has a shuttle from airport to motel? I dont want to rent a car, an sounds like a taxi is very expensive.

thanks ellen0502 for the suggestion to call hotel direct.  I had already booked our stay at the Springhill Suites, I called them direct this morning & was able to get our rate lowered between grad rate & AAA rate saved $100!  Also thank you FTLW for the information on the Adopt a Sailor program.  So happy to hear this TG has the opportunity for this program!

plattecountymom:  Since you booked on Southwest, did they give your a rental car discount code?  They usually do.

Everyone, Southwest is a great airlines to book with---because....they charge NO CHANGE FEE---this is important because your SR can be setback in training at any point and it can be pricey to pay the change fees for flights charged by most airlines....also, 2 bags check for free......  Southewest flies into Milwaukee WI (quicker drive to GL, 45 min, because of no traffic....cheaper car rental)....or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic).  However, if your sailor will be flying out....remember that normally they fly out of the Chicago airports....you will be allowed to visit with your new sailors there and wait with him/her until departure so keep this in mind when booking your flights.

Since the next day is a Federal holiday, it is likely that your new sailors will not fly out until Sat.  Not guaranteed but likely.  Those with sailors staying in GL for A School will have from Thurs' graduation (after they move to their new base right after PIR which takes a few hours) through Sun with their sailors, daytime only as the sailors will return to their base at night.  Same with RTC sailors (those flying out).  They will return to RTC at night.

The "rate" that ellen referred to when booking Navy Lodge is either E-1, E-2, or E-3.

Comment by diannep on November 14, 2015 at 9:57am

Krisrva:  Google "Navy Lodge Great Lakes" and you will find the phone number to call on their website.  You can also read about the hotel's amenities on the site as well.

Shelley:  Navy Lodge is really not "on base" in that it is in a housing section about 1.5 miles from the base.  But it is a good hotel to stay in....good rates, simple but clean and sufficient accommodations----you can request a room with a kitchenette also.  Book early as it does book up quickly.  If you do not have military ID yourself, you need to book in your SR's name.  You will be allowed to stay there courtesy of your new sailor.....

It is very wise for all to book their accommodations NOW.  It is New Years Eve obviously so you never know how that may affect hotel bookings.  There is usually no penalty if you have to cancel as long as you call either within 24 hrs of arrival or even sometimes day of arrival.

Other hotels we recommend from good reviews on this site are:  Springhill Suites, Courtyard,, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn.  All near each other, near a large Walmart shopping center with restaurants, etc.  4-5 miles from RTC....near Sarge's MeetandGreet held for all family members of a graduating sailor the night before PIR.  Call these hotels directly and ask them for the Navy Graduation discount (not available when booking online....you must call directly).  Compare with any other discounts you may be entitled to.  We stayed at Residence Inn back in 2010 and used our AAA discount.

We suggest that all check out the hotel they are interested in booking on www.tripadvisor.com before booking.  Most reviews on there will be from Navy families like you.

Good Morning!  We are here to help so please read the PAGES info to the right of this page and if you still have questions, please post!  Welcome to Bootcamp!

My SR will be in A school at GL. I am planning to book my hotel today, so I was wondering if it is easier to try to stay at the Navy Lodge or should I stay off base?

Hello!

I am a “veteran” mom. When I am on here my focus is mainly the PIR Groups and Boot Camp Mom's.

You can call me FTLW, it's easier :-)

My Sailor PIR’d in 05/2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I am an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife (29 years - now retired). I know …not Navy…but I am familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments. Our son enlisted while Hubby was on his 2nd Deployment.. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands Deployment.
