Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

ShortOrder:  Years ago, they had a Family Night the day before PIR which was Navy-sponsored and included both sailors and families.  Sadly, they discontinued that and now the first time you will see your sailor is at PIR.   The MeetandGreet is not sponsored by the Navy....it is put on by a retired Army soldier named Sarge, who along with his wife pays for this from his own pocket.  They provide a dinner for you and your family members and lots of info for PIR weekend.  It is all free to you....but he does accept any donations any want to give....but of course, not necessary.  He knows that many are strapped financially in these times....and it is a hardship financially for many just to get to PIR.  We have always heard great things from those who attended his MeetanGreet!  It is from 5-9 the night before PIR .   Info can be found in the EVENTS section below left on this page....or.....go to his page on this site by going to MEMBERS tab up top and putting in Old Sarge.  Lots of info on that page.

Pip:  Yes, many wear nametags at the MeetandGreet with their real names along with their screen names on this site.  Great way to identify each other!

Nervousnellie:  You will have Christmas Day with your SR if you are part of the Adopt a Sailor program (your SR must send you the form).  They will need to return to base in the early evening.

I agree Grizzy01!  This site, support and communication has been so helpful to me!  Wonder if we should wear name tags to the meet and greet....but with our Profile names haha!  That would be fun.
