Susie - Gabe must have a very nice voice. What a treat for everyone and such a nice surprise. I'm sure it is wonderful that he is home with you now. Northwest changed Katie's flight twice for her for free - once when she thought she was going to be able to leave base on Thursday night and again when a different commander told her she could not leave until the shuttle on Friday AM.

Have a Blessed Christmas!

My son is flying out of Milwaukee direct to Denver and his flight was suppose to leave Milwaukee at 3:20 and now it's been delayed 1 hour 20 minutes.

Kathy, I am also the Church Administrator at our church...don't you have anyone else that can sign checks? We have 3 others besides myself that can sign...

Valorie,
IA stands for "Individual Augmentee". The MA rating is a natural fit for that; I suspect he would be working base security, and if it's a Marine base, it would make sense that he would cross-train with them. IA's are Navy personnel deployed with Army or Marine units in Iraq and Afghanistan; by volunteering he basically gets a soldier or marine off the hook who has already been deployed more than once. His pay will be tax-free, and there may be other benefits thrown in as well (I'm not in a position to know details) - bottom line it is a terrific and unselfish thing to do, and may God bless him for considering it.

My suggestion is that when your son's/daughter's are home for the holiday's, go to the bank and do a General Power of Attorney on their bank account. Also, I have a Generic "Power of Attorney" form I did with my son before he left, if anyone is interested, send me a PM and I will forward this MS Word document to you.

Ladies, this is why it is so important to either be a signer on their checking accounts, and/or to have a "General Power of Attorney" setup so you can help your son's and daughter's in situations like this.

My son used that travel service on base and was able to get R/T tickets from Chicago to Denver for $350.00...

Yeah, I got my call from Aaron also, he moved over yesterday but was so busy he wasn't able to call until about an hour ago. He will be coming home on Friday the 19th and must be back on base the 4th. He sounded so good, he said the base side is like "college living" he has a lot more freedom.
