mysteryfan:  I should add that if he is NOT GradNGo to GL, then he will leave PIR with you on the shuttle (sailors are free on the shuttles).  He will have to be back at RTC each night during the weekend.

mysteryfan:  You are very welcome!

If your sailor is GradNGo to GL, then he will move right after PIR like you said. And, yes, you could go anywhere you like while waiting for his call (make sure he has a phone card to call you....no cells yet until off of RTC) ....you will be picking him up at the other base. Will you have a rental car?  If not, you can take a cab to pick him up.  The GL base is right next to RTC.

diannep-You always have such helpful information-thanks for sharing it! I'm also staying at the Residence Inn, so glad to hear you liked it. Question about the shuttle-my son is going to A school in GL, so I'm guessing he will have to go straight there for 3-5 hours after graduation to check in before he gets any liberty. Are we supposed to leave the base and wait at the hotel? I read something about going to the mess hall or somewhere to wait, but I'm concerned that if the shuttles stop after a couple of hours, we and/or my son might not have a way to get back to the hotel.

So those on ship 2, can you verify your addess (no names), just the data.

Here is what the Red Cross says, but I know it's wrong....

I beleive the Ship 2 Reuben James is 3600 Ohio Street, Great Lake, Ill, 60088-7105.

K-town.  You'll love the Residence Inn.  We really enjoyed our stay there.  It is pet friendly too...so for those driving, consider bringing pet(s) to surprise your sailor!  The breakfast is nice too...a hot/cold buffet in the lobby.  PIR shuttle---$3/pp each way---sailor rides for free!

Happy Dance  Happy Dance  I got the form letter today from my Dan   He saidwith much love that   he missed me and can't wait to see his gf.  He had some fun stories to tell me soon but he's exhausted having only one nite of sleep  (letter postmarked Jan 24)  He cant wait to start training for graduation - he's in the 900th division and he signed it  Spa Vacation..............

Also, LovinMa:  You can take NO pictures on the base at all...except for inside the PIR Hall.  They don't allow you to stay in there long once liberty is called (maybe 10 minutes).  The shuttles run for a couple of hours after PIR so you won't have a problem getting one back with your sailor.
Comment by diannep on January 27, 2011 at 6:54pm
LovinMa:  You sailor is allowed to take the PIR shuttle back to the hotel with you...for free!  :-)
