NavyMaMa:  He could be flying out after PIR or the next morning.  Or he could be held at RTC for a few days before flying out. If he tells you he is GradNGo, then he will be leaving Fri or Sat.  They usually won't know this until a few weeks before PIR.

Hang in there!

HI Ladies, my son will be going to Connecticut after BC so will he be leaving a few hours after PIR? Was just wondering what to expect after the graduation and what kind of reservations for flights once we find out their PIR details.

Hope everyone is coping with the emotional roller coaster we're all on.

Momawild- in most cases they leave bootcamp within a few days after PIR. It depends on when the next set of classes start for how long the will be in Pensacola. They all have to go through in-doc classes. And they have a test and have to phase up before they are allowed to leave the base. Phase 1 they can't leave the base, phase 2 they can but they hav3e to be back by a certain time like 10 pm It is not until phase 3 that they can stay off base over night. To go from phase 1 to 2 they have to pass a test. Then phase 3 is a certain number of days after they reached phase 2. AO school is very short once it starts. My sailor had PIR July 23, graduated A-school September 23rd, Had C-school in VA and graduated that Dec 10th. If they pick ships company they stay in Pensacola after A-school for strand, which is also a short class and they don't have C-school. If they pick squadron company they go to either VA or CA for C-school. I hope that make sense. If not or if you have any questions feel free to send me a message. :-)

I hate to post any bad news but I would not count on them getting to come home after bootcamp to wait for a-school. From what I have seen they usually go on to the a-school destination and go through in-doc and then wait to class up. It can be a couple of weeks or a few months and maybe longer. I know one sailor wwho had PIR with my sailor in July. He just started his actual a-school classes a couple weeks ago. I know he hated waiting and often complained about being bored out of his mind. They do give them a job to do while they wait. It could be anything from office work to scraping barnicles off of ships. I don't think the expected a-school graduation dates they are given are correct either. Those dates don't allow for indoc and classing up. My sailor was told at boot camp she would finish A-school August 20 and it was actually Sept 23rd. My best advice is don't get your hope up for them to come home before going to A-school, be flexable and expect things to change more than once.

I thought the same thing Angie! How come there aren't more of us here? My son's recruiter told me about N4M actually. :)

I find it so sad that there are so many moms out there that are not on here, dont you?  Its such a life line for so many of us   Anyone have any ideas how we can get more folks involved?  If I had known better when I went to my sr's swearing in I would of have cards printed with my contact info to give to them

WOW Tweed  wouldnt that be wonderful!  I hope that one of us in this group gets this priviledge   My son was the editor of his college's paper and worked with his recruiters on the paper   They wanted him to continue writing a report about his thoughts on bootcamp  and they talked to him a bit about coming back to work in the recruiting office

Angie I'd had that same conversation with my son before he left.  After all what's Mother's Day without your kids (and the added bonus of being in Florida).  My son is going to A School for AM (airplane mechanic - not sure if the letters are correct).  One of his recruiters told him that there is a 6 month back log for his school.  He's hoping that he'll be able to come home and work with the recruiters until his school is open.  Has anyone else experienced something like this?

@Lala ribbon Queen - my son is in AO (or will be after boot)  how much time will he have after boot and before heading to Pensacola?  We thought he wasn't going to boot until April and hubby/I planned a vacation.  We're going to miss graduation!!  I was wondering when he'll go to Pensacola.  How much time until school starts...any free time?

Junebug, I was wondering if they'd be able to watch the game too. It'll be a while before we know haha.
