Okay, if you want something a little different and kind of interesting to write about here is something I found very cool. This year we have the dates 1-1-11, 1-11-11, 11-1-11. and 11-11-11. Now with all those 1's in your mind take the year you were born let say '63 and add that to the age you will be this year 48 and you get 111. It works for everyone, try it. :)

Yep, SeabeeWifeDawn:  My son said they shoveled some when he was there.  Good experience for him...quite different than shoveling the sand in S. Florida!

ANGIE:  Yes, the box illicits different responses from different ladies.  I was a "get er done" mom and as soon as it came, I washed all and put it away.  Just felt I needed to do it. Others keep the box around for a long time, smelling the scent of their recruit in the belongings sent (well, sweaty socks may have been washed right away!).  Many keep the actual box...I think I'm a bit OCD with too much stuff in my house. and my sailor son is a "throw away"kind of guy...so it wasn't too difficult for me to dispose of the box and wash the clothes.  But I did shed a tear as I opened the box, saw the clothes I last saw him in and the small Navy backpack/his contract that he took with him...all minus him...it was a very bizarre moment.  So just be ready...and handle it any way you would like to and what brings peace to you!

In some ways the "kid in the box" (and I really don't like that term, too morbid) is very hard. I cried and cried. In order to get through that day I had to think of other ways that it was a good thing. It meant, my daughter was well on her way to becoming a sailor. It meant she was in a safe place, with plenty of food, people to look after her, a warm place to sleep, growing up, and nice new cloths and shoes. It meant she wasn't out at midnight hanging with friends, on the way back from a movie, or on the road late at night. To think of this way gave me a sense of knowing she was safe. And through the tears I couldn't help but laugh when I saw that one pants leg rolled up and turned on her phone to see that I was the last call she made. It was the beginning of a new adventure and a new life. Plus she can travel the world, meet new people, get an education, have fun and get a steady pay check to do it. :)

so ladies..tell me why I should be excited to get "the kid in the box"   I think it might be worse than going into his room

Good Afternoon Moms it is a balmy 28 here in New Jersey today. It has been a pretty hard day today, did some laundry and had to go into my sons room for the first time since he left, of course I broke down. I have started writing letters and have them set aside to mail when I get an address. Just trying to keep myself busy !! How is everyone else feeling? What are you doing to try and keep your mind occupied?

diannep: it's good to hear they do have to shovel!  I kept teasing my hubby that the only reason he enlisted was to get out of shoveling snow for the rest of the winter!  I am not a fan of winter or snow so I'm not looking forward to taking this over... lol

It's good to hear that the boxes are coming, I work to far from home to run home at lunch so now I have something to look forward to when I get home!
