The box usually comes within a week after they get there. The form letter usually takes about 10 days. Feb 4th is cutting it really close. The box will come from Fed-Ex. Maybe you should give him a friend or family members address to send those to until you move and give him the new address.

Hi everyone! My son is leaving for GL tomorrow, am I in the right group? He's been held up in processing since Sunday but everything is good to go now so he should be leaving in the morning.

I have a question.  He's going to be sending the box and form letter to me, but we're moving to another state on Feb. 4th. Do you think I will get the box and letter before we move? If not, what should I do?

He's suppose to be calling me tonight so I'm sitting here on pins and needles just waiting. I can't wait to hear his voice. I just hope I can hold off on crying til we've hung up. Anything triggers me to cry.

Thanks for being here to listen to me babble on and stay strong. We can do this, we're Navy Moms!!

Thanks. It is hard to get the real answers. I truly appreciate all who take the time to support us.

I am so sorry I wasn't here to answer your questions earlier. I had to take one of my teens to the hospital. They did some tests and think she has something wrong with her gallbladder. We will know more in a few days.

Thanks JessicaB for being here too and Diannep. After PIR most families will get to spend the rest of the day Friday. All day Saturday and all day Sunday with their sailol. There will be some recruits who will be what is refered to as Grad and Go. If they are Grad and Go and are leaving for A-school in other locations they will in most cases leave the base for the airport very early in the morning (like 2am) and their flight will be sometime between 6am and late afternoon. In most cases you can meet your sailor at the airport and hang out with them until their flight. There is a very small chance that they could be on a chartered flight and if so they do not come in the airport so you can't meet them there. I have only heard of this happening one time since April and that was when it happened to my daughter. If your recruit is a Grad and Go and stays in Great Lakes for A-school there is a very good chance that they will get to spend nights with their family as well. They will have to check in to their new base across the street which takes 4 to 5 hours but then they will call you to pick them up and they are yours for the weekend. They could have watch for a couple hours during the weekend.

I know it is a lot to take in but I wouldn't worry about it for a while. They won't know for a few weeks if they are grad and go or not. So for now just write lots of let's and encourage them as much as you can.

Beth its cold here too - Rochester NY   we are a hour from Canada,  this weekend it will be in the single digits or minus   My son is a skier and used to the weather   I know there are some Moms' on here who's kids aren't used to the cold.  I have heard with the new remodeled RCT that they dont have a lot of outside time   let's hope they get some sleep soon and stay warm

So if our son left on 1/18/11 he should be in this group, correct? Does anyone have an address yet? Our son's recruiter told us we won't get it until the box arrives.

Thank you Angie for starting this.  I truly look for the support from everyone here!

Oregonmom - I've made the same committment.  Hitting the gym 6 days a week and changing the eating habit a bit.

K-town - I also wondered throughout the day "Gee I wonder what _______".  It feels so empty.  This morning one of my co-workers/friend came up to give me a hug and I had all I could do to keep it together.  I posted one of the pictures of the swearing in ceremony as my wallpaper on my work computer.  It helped by making it feel like he was close by.

Beth - you are an amazingly strong person!  Your son and husband to be going through BC at the same time.  I am sure your son is going to be fine - look at the incredible strenght you have!

Today was a tearful day.  It was my first day back to work and I found myself wondering a lot about what they are doing.  Kurt was able to make the call last night around 0030 hrs.  So I didn't get much sleep after that.

Today I woked on washing his laundry - this weekend I think I'll trackle cleaning his room.

Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone, I am so glad you all found Navy for Moms. I don't know how those who have never heard of it survive bootcamp. JessicaB is right it will be your lifeline. I am a veteran mom as well and I am here to help you with any questions you may have. I have 2 sailors, one (my daughter) who had PIR this summer and is already finished with A & C-school and with her first duty station and another (my son-in-law) who is finishing A-school this week and will be joining my daughter at NAS Oceana VA. If you have any questions you can post them on this page or feel free to send me a friend request if you like. I have been through so much since my daughter joined in April. Many many different experiences. If you like you can take a look at my story on my page. You do not have to be my friend to go to my page just click on my name and it will take you there. Welcome from me, Lora, aka Lala the PIR Ribbon Maker.
