I tend to carry my son's letters with me for 2 days after I get them. I wave them in the air at work, showing everyone that I got one. Funny, no one else is as excited as I am! But they are still happy for me.

Big Mike's Mom..... you sound like me!! I know what your going thru waiting for that phone to ring. I will continue standing tall on my "worry post" as I wait for the mailman while holding the phone!!!

Sacha, I think thats so sweet and if it brings you closer to your hubby then read them a hundred and one times a day!! DMF, that is so funny about your husband putting the letter back in the envelope & you taking it out again. I read the letter a few times over and then pass it on to my husband to read it. I then ask him the million dollar question "What do you make of his letter ?'' I always get the eye roll as he is assuring me there is no secret message hidden in the letter!! I never thought in a million years it would be this hard when a loved one leaves home...My daughter MacKenzie graduates from high school in May & is then moving away to college. From the way I reacted when Bren left, my husband thinks it might just be a good idea to go ahead and get our walls padded for when my daughter leaves home Ü

I am so glad that I am not the only person reading the same letter over and over again. I guess I will continue to do that until another letter arrives!

Bren's Mom: I have read the letters at least once a day! I think it might be a bit much, but I feel closer to my husband by doing that!

Thanks for all the info on the phone calls... I will continue to keep the phone glued to me until I hear something. We have recieved 3 letters- short letters! Bren has never been one to write so this doesn't come as a suprise. He does say everything is going fine, but then again he knows how I worry so I doubt he would ever tell me anything negative. When the first letter arrived I DID NOT recognize the handwritting & I thought someone else wrote for him! I find myself reading his letters over and over, making sure I didn't miss anything ...am I alone on that one??

Kelbel3273, thanks for the info on recruit handwriting, I thought my son had paid someone to write his letter as it was in all caps and not his handwriting, LOL no wonder it was also fairly short.

My son is in DIV 158. He had said many guys got wisdom teeth pulled so they missed their calls b/c they were confined to racks. Maybe your son was in that group...I almost missed my son's call b/c I saw the number on my cell- it just said "verizon wireless". I didn't answer it the first time. Glad he tried right back!

Andrea, my son is ship 04 div 161, I did get 1 letter, but still no phone call. I am also on my worry post!! My husband thinks I am a little crazy because I worry so much, men just don't get it!
Comment by Peggy G on March 13, 2010 at 11:54am
I think I was the last person to receive the 1st letter and phone call and I was worrying my head off and probably shouldn't have in hindsight... easier said than done. See if others in Div 156 have gotten calls. I know Div 158 didn't call until late Thursday and I don't know if they can call on weekends or not. I feel for you because all kinds of thoughts roll around in your head, but I am sure he is okay.... probably dog tired.
