Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

Sorry you didn't get the phone call.  My SR called today as well.  Was able to talk to him for about 10 minutes.  Did you know if they call via cell phone it takes an additional 45 minutes off the calling card?  Ridiculous!  Have you made plans on where you are going to stay for PIR?  Are you going to the meet and greet?

I received a call today as well.  My daughter is doing ok but said it was a lot harder than she thought it was going to be.  It was really good to hear her voice and they only have 4 weeks to go.  I read it starts getting easier for them at his point.

I missed my call. I was so upset.  My daughter called and I was in Zumba class of all things.  I had no idea they would call on a Monday.  I have literally had my phone connected to me 24/7.  Her dad and stepmom, nor her boyfriend answered their phones either.  She finally got ahold of her little brother.  She left me such a sad voicemail.  I felt horrible and was so disappointed I cried all the way home.
Thats sad, I'm sorry that you did not hear from your daughter. Do you think they get another call before the end? I am not as upset as I was last night with my son, but I am still disappointed with him. He wrote me the other day and sounded ok, he told me things are looking better. And when he spoke to his girlfriend (which I never knew she was his girlfriend) he sounded terrible she said, and that he is having a hard time getting along with others there. So im a little confused between his letter and what she is saying. It stinks we wait the long 4 weeks and we are unable to speak with them.
Her brother told me she said that they wouldn't get another phone call for 2 weeks.  But, he is 11, so you never know.  I am just so upset that they would have them call at 5 on a Monday.  That is like the worst time possible for everyone I would assume.  I don't think I like her Chief!!
Im happy for you! Did she happen to say how many recruits were in this div?
Thats wonderful that you spoke to him. How did he sound? Since I did not get a chance to speak to my son, I still have a ton of questions. And no, I have not made any arraingements, I was waiting to talk to my son to get more details. But yes, I do plan on attending everything, as much as I am still disappointed that he did not call me.

Hi th3r3sawkids! Well atleast your son made 2 phone calls :) an you also got alot of information. Atleast it gives me an idea of what is going on. My son plays the drums, and he spoke to his girlfriend last night and his school is in the Great Lakes. He has to go to A school right away too.

It is interesting to hear that their division is that tough. My son, before leaving for bootcamp, did nothing for 10 months but play video games. He is a video game junkie. I tried to tell him that he needs to start running and getting into shape, but he kept telling me, I can run. Its kinda funny, that he got the toughest group. He is even laughing at himself now (in his last letter). Its all good (I Hope).

Soccermom, my son sounded good, thanks.  We only had 10 minutes.  It goes so fast.  My son is Grad and Go, so we will only have graduation day with him.  We are going to be with him Saturday at the airport until he has to leave for South Carolina.  I think that both our sons are cut from the same mold.  They would be good buddies.  We nagged him for months to prepare physically for boot camp.  Nope.  He knew better.  What can you do?  Video games are more fun!  Where does your son go to A School?  Again, sorry that you weren't able to speak to your son.  I am sure you are greatly disappointed.  Take care!

Guess there is a correction.  He is Saturday departure.  Grad and Go is only for those who are staying in Great Lakes.  Apparently there is confusion and the SR's are being told wrong terminology.
I'm happy you got to talk to your son.  I missed my daughter's call.  I made my reservations at the Country Inn Suites in Gurney.  Do you know the details of the meet and greet??
I am so sorry you missed your daughter's call.  I feel horrible for you.:(  You can find info. on the meet and greet on the Group PIR 4/8 from JessicaSailorMom.  I think she just posted info. a few hours ago.  We have reservations at the Navy Lodge.  Hope to talk to you more.  Take care!
