did I do that right?  We haven't started twoard travel yet for the big day.  My son is quite a bit older than many of the other recruits.  He is 32. I imagine he is having a very different experience than if he had joined 10 years ago.  He did march in a drum and bugle corps, so some things are easier for him, I am sure.  Lookinf forward to a real letter.

Hey there Judyspin.  "Old" or young....I am sure they are all having "fun".  My young SR is in this same DIV...thinking of him constantly.  Excited for that 1st real letter...then I laugh and think...wow, I hope his first letter is actually to us!  Hopefully in the next few days we will all be talking about our letters.  Are you going to PIR?
Yes, We will go to PIR. My other two children, who are married, are in the process of deciding if they can get away to go.  It would be nice to either travel together or at least arrive at the same time and place so we can rent one car!   I hope we can settle this over the weekend, and get all the necessary reservations. It helps me when I think about my son's committment and new discipline to keep myself in some important new discipline as well. Well, not new, just ...refreshed.  It is easier to stick to stuff when I consider everything he has to stick to.

My husband is in this division as well.  he is 27.  Other than the form letter that I got on Saturday and a VERY brief phone call last night asking for the bank account numbers, I have not heard anything from him.  No letters or anything.

We are from Oregon.

I have already got my trip to PIR planned.

Oh, wow! your hubby.  What a big decision that must have been for your family. My son joined becauuse he needed to make all kinds of changes.  "when everything changes, change everything"

Yup, it was a big decision.  We have two children. 4.5yr old son & 15 month old daughter.  he's always wanted to join the Navy, but we started young with our family & it didnt seem like a good option for us.  But, after making the decision to join, it took about a year for all the paperwork and waivers and DEP for him to actually leave.

Soooo glad its finally starting!

When your "older" recruits get out of boot camp I would to hear from you about their experience as an older recruit. My nephew is 28 and is thinking about joining. Thanks

yes, my 28 year old nephew will also be going to boot camp after he finishes the semester.  We will know more my PIR time, I hope. I'm sure there are comments like "pops" but i also know that an older [erson has a diffeent life view, and knows how do "just do what needs to be done.

I am glad to hear that there are some "older' recruits.  This may help in maturing my SR!!  I have to laugh...I think I mentioned before that when I enlisted (Army)...a VERY LONG TIME AGO, when I was 18...we had a lady that was 25 years old in our platoon...we called her "Grandma"...seems even funnier now...25...so very young!!  We are staying at the Ramada..hope to meet you guys there, if you arent staying there...amybe at the meet/greet!

I got a letter yesterday! (thursday)  He wrote it on the 19th and it was mailed the 22nd.  It was short b/c he said that they only got 20 min to write.

He said they are still in processing but will still graduate on 4/8.

on the 17th, he got the "peanut butter shot in the butt" and said it still hurts!

His bunk mate is from Balitmore.

All they've really been doing is Marching, practicing their beds and folding a lot of clothes.

Anyone else get a letter?

Im bringing my two kids, by myself.  One is 4.5 the other is 15 months.

Im bringing lots of snacks!  (hopefully food is allowed)  and toys.

My kids are pretty well behaved and I dont *think* they will act up. but, I'm sure there will be a lot of other kids & noise.

can we bring a stroller?   I thought it was bleachers that we sit in.
