I have a husband in this unit :)
Great!! Where are you from? Have you started making plans to attend?
I'm from Kansas. We have a 13.5 month old daughter. I'm looking at flights/rental cars/hotels right now. Its hard for me to plan, because I'm thinking there's a good chance my husband will be grad-n-go so I don't know how long to stay!
We booked our flight today but my daughter will be staying in Great Lakes an additional 6 weeks. Be sure to purchase travel insurance if flying so you can reschedule if you need to.
My son is in this unit and I am so excited!! PIR is sonner than I had expected!! But no complaints here. Glad to meet you Dest W. Maybe we can meet up in Great Lakes. My son is grad and go as well, so no idea how long I have with him, but probably not long.
PIR is sooner than I expected as well but I'm very happy for that! It would be fun to meet up! I think my daughter and I will be flying in early Thursday afternoon. Do you know what hotel you'll be staying at? We're still trying to decide. I hope we find out soon whether or not my husband is grand and go!
We will likely come in Thursday evening. We will just drive up since we are just south of Indianapolis. It's only about 3 hrs or so for us to drive. I'm thinking Country Inn and Suites. They are always nice hotels and have a nice free continental breakfast too. It's about 10 miles away. I just don't know for sure how long since I don't know when our son will be leaving for A school since he is grad and go. I am buying a restaurant and really can't be away longer than necessary since I will be opening around that time, but not leaving until our son does either. So... just waiting to get a note from him with that info I guess. Country Inn and Suites has a deal if you buy two nights, you get the third free. Works out to very good rate. Just be careful staying at hotels too close to the base. We found them to be rather gross when were up there a few years back for our son's grad from boot camp with the US Navy Sea Cadets.
My daughter is also graduating May 7th. I will be coming from Ky. We don't know if we are flying yet. Thanks for sharing info about hotels - I thought being close to base was what we would do but that doesn't sound so good. My daughter stays in Great Lakes for an additional 6 weeks. We really should all get together - I am so happy to make contact with others having loved ones on this site.
lorraineld...where in KY are you coming from? Yeah our son was in the US Naval Sea Cadets since he was 11 and he had a boot camp there in Great Lakes (only 2 wks) when he was 13. I decided to stay as close as possible to the base as I could and as cheaply as I could. What a huge mistake!! The hotel I actually booked ahead of time was the most disgusting place and I demanded my money back and refused to stay there. I didn't put my bags down when I walked in the room if that tells you anything. Then we had to go on a hunt and I checked rooms before I would even talk to them. We did finally find a place, but it was a little farther away and OK, but that's it. We stay at the Country Inn and Suites most of the time when we travel unless there just isn't one....even if it's a little farther away. It's worth it for knowing it's a nice place to stay and usually pretty competitive on price.
Thanks so much. We booked our flights today and I will be looking for our rooms tonite!!
I am coming from Bath Conty which is east of Lexington.
I made our reservations at the Country Inn also, so hopefully we will all be able to meet. Can't wait!!
