I am looking at booking a hotel already. I would like a place that has a shuttle to and from PIR. How did you ladies plan so far ahead without knowing if your recruit is grad and go? Are the ways to change reservations without repercussions?

Help? Please & thank you =)

I booked our reservations at teh Super 8 Hotel in Waukegan. 847-249-2388. Rate was $53.99 per night. Free shuttle, free breakfast AND good reviews online! I guaranteed the room on my credit card, but there is no charge or penalty to cancel. I booked rooms from Thursday to Sunday, but if our division is G&G, we will leave Saturday and I was told there would not be a charge for that either. The Ramada Inn had a similar rate, but almost all of the reviews online mentioned that the hotel and rooms smelled old and musty. I stayed at a Ramada in Columbus OH and had the same experience - won't do that again!
I have been looking at Super 8 Hotel in Waukegan like you have suggested. But it says "If you need to cancel, you must do so by 4:00 PM local hotel time on May 20, 2010 or your credit card will be charged for one night's stay." So this is saying that if you want to check out early, just let them know by 4 PM the day you plan on leaving and you won't get charged?
SailorMoesGirl, I believe that is correct!
I made reservations through Sunday night at the Red Carpet Inn $56 a night with free shuttle. Their cancellation policy is 72 hour notice. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry as soon as I know for sure I can change my reservation.
Has anyone utilized the travel agent in the flyer sent us by the Navy? www.mwrtravelplus.com? We checked it out and their plane reservations were about $100 less than everyone else.
We did and they were very helpful.
I found their rate was the same as Expedia. But Expedia offered more flight selections.
We checked out the flights on the website mentioned and the rates were actually higher for us.
Bear's Mommy - I called them for flights for my daughter from Columbus OH and I found less expensive fares on Expedia and Southwest...
It must have something to do with location. We called in and scheduled everything through them, plane, hotel, car. Way cheaper than Expedia. I love Expedia and use them all the time. Dear Hubby is extremely frugal so he is now a happy man. LOL.
We're driving up (18 hours eeek) and making a mini vacation out of it, so regardless of whether he's grad and go or not we'll be able to see Chicago. We're staying sort of midway between the base and downtown Chicago to make the travel back and forth much easier. I don't know what you all are planning on doing for the day of with your boys but I'm writing my husband with several "packages" that I created so he can kind of choose what he'd like to do. They are all contingent on whether or not he's grad and go of course. We're booking Thursday through Monday.
Traci- I LOVE the 'packages' idea. Perhaps I'll start putting something like this together. Thanks for the great idea.
