Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

ok so can someone help me please??????? i found this on the site somewhere

When I learned that my son's division was a Grad & Go, I was very confused. I knew that
my son's A-school was in Great Lakes, and didn't understand why he was a Grad & Go..
I thought Grad & Go was for new Sailors going off to somewhere else for A-school, but found out at PIR that was not the case at all........
A Grad & Go division means that the whole division packs up all their stuff the night before PIR and immediately after PIR, they are loaded on a bus and taken across the
street to the other base. They have to vacate the "ship" that they stayed in for boot camp... probably to make space for new divisions coming in. They do not go back to RTC.........
Most or all have weekend Liberty, and do not have to be back on base until Sunday night, although they have to call in every night.
Hopefully this will clear up a lot of questions for others

Im pretty sure my SR's A school is in GL so does this mean he is grad and go.Or will he have all weekend liberty. How do i find out would his recruiter know?

MV-Boone ...Wow, you're son sounds very mature for his age ... I'll bet you're very proud of him. That's nice to hear that him and his wife put a lot of thought into their careers. Sorry, but I have to ask... what is the nukes?
My son is 22 years old and had he not enlisted, I'm not sure what he would have done. He enlisted on his own over a year ago and at first, he enlisted under reserves but then ended up changing it to a 4 year committment. My son Zack is a great kid but he was truly driving down the wrong road. He was actually supposed to leave for bootcamp last November 25th but he ignored everything and he lost his chance. By the grace of God and a darn good recruiter, he was given another chance and was given another bootcamp date of 4/13.
Honestly MV-Boone, I literally walked on egg shells the month prior to his leaving. I was so afraid he wouldn't go. I cried the day he left, and not because I was going t miss him but because I was so happy that he had made the best decision of his life. I try not to think of where he would be today had he not gone.

Denise, my son is 23, and he married in 2008, so not too recently. His wife is an RN (cardiac surgical nurse), so they had thought a lot about this career change for him before he enlisted. This is their 1st child, and my son was a DEP, so he was able to be here for the entire pregnancy and birth. My son was a gun maker before he enlisted. He's heading into the nukes, and I'm not sure what the time is, but I think, last I heard, he's thinking career navy. How about your recruit/sailor?

Here's a link to the Family Guide on the Great Lakes website. The main gate opens up at 6:30 a.m. (see page 5). The shuttle from our Hotel starts at 6:30 a.m. I have done a lot of reading and this guide has been a tremendous help. There's always a chance that it has changed a little bit.

Jamie'sMom ... How do you know that the ceremony starts at 9am? And, you mentioned the shuttle starts at 6:30am .. where's this shuttle from ... your hotel?

MV-Boone's Mom, Wow, your son just recently getting married, having a baby and then leaving for the Navy .. that's a lot of action for that young man. If you don't mind me asking, how old is your son? How long did he enlist for, 2 ,4, or 6 years?
