Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

susan2david - You mentioned a poem called "Don't Quit" ... can you share it? I'd love to hear it. I send my son a letter/card every day and I'm always searching for encouraging sayings/words/quotes.

I wondered about Mother's Day calls... but I'm thinking, "there are soooo many young men and women there!" Maybe I'll tell him it's ok, he can celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day together this year... :-)

We're excited down here in Georgia! Time is flying by so fast! I'd hope that the Mom's would get a phone call tomorrow, but who knows!

My DiL has now received 3 letters and 1 phone call from my son as of today (May 8th). The days are ticking along nicely until the PIR on the 4th of June! Just 26 more days until we all get a hug from our (then) sailors! Hip, hip, hooray!!! Aren't we all excited for our young recruits? What a step they've taken in adulthood, and I'm so proud of them all! Happy Mother's Day to all!

therightthing, Happy Mama Birthday! I don't know if our kids ever realize that the "day of their birth is also about us! I once found a card that showed a screaming woman in a green hospital gown. When I opened it up the message was "Mom, thanks for all you've done for me! It's your day too!"
And, I'm one of those B'day bootcamp moms. Our son's birthday is 6/2 so we'll have a double celebration for PIR!

My son's birthday is today...21 year old! We sent a bunch of cards and are sending good "vibes" today! More than half way through bootcamp! Hoo-yah! Happy bday to all the SR's that celebrate during bootcamp! : )

Shelly: I know Jamie said he received my card last Friday, which so happened to be the hardest day since they got there. They had Intensive Training for "failing" at something. Fortunately, by the time I talked to him on Tuesday, he was much better also. We got our second letter today! Wow - it does get easier!

SmothieVito: & other families from out of town: There are GREAT restaurants in Wheeling....not too far south of GL. Bucca di Beppo, Claim Jumper, Don Roth's, Bob Chin's, Ram Brewery.....and more........all on Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling. There's also Lou Malnati's Pizza ( a Chicago standard!!!) in Buffalo Grove. Enjoy!

I am so glad that we are receiving our letters. This weeks letter was very down. He said that he wishes that he was back home in his old routine. He was very homesick on Sunday it seems but when I talked to him on Tuesday he sounded better than thhis letter. He told us on the phone that Sunday was the worst day he has had and that Monday was the best so all I can do is not dwell on this letter and knowthat he will get better. I am going back to OK to get my husband so I will not be on for a couple of days. I will talk to all of you soon. Happy Mothers Day in case I do not getback on by Sunday.
