Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

Don't worry. My son didn't take any writing material or stamps, but the recruits have access to them there. He has been writing to us on Navy stationary and everything's been stamped! The downside is you will only receive a letter once a week once he is allowed to start writing, which is only on Sundays.

Good morning everybody!

With all of this talk about wisdom teeth I plan to give a co-worker a heads up. His son is DEP and will ship to GL in December. If he has wisdom teeth he may as well have them extracted before he ships. Our son wrote that it was suggested that he have his removed. I don't know if "suggested" means think about it, or, it will be done. Maybe we'll find out more in his next letter...

Boone's Mom: We're also staying at the SpringHill Suites and driving up from Atlanta. My son went in as a Corpsman. They wanted him in Nukes until they found out he was color blind. Oops - got that gene from me. So a medic is what he'll be!

My son left on the 12th and got to GL on the 12th. The box and and the form letter have come, but that's all thus far. We are driving to the PIR (over 13 hours from NC), and staying in the SpringHill Suites Waukegan while in the area. They have the shuttle service, there, too, and still had the discounted rate for families attending the PIR. The Meet and Greet for the families, I've been told, is on Thursday, the 3rd at the Ramada Inn in Waukegan, and it is free. The countdown on this page is really fun and encouraging to see each day; makes me realize time truly is flying by! :-) Oh, and my son is in Ship 7 DIV 203, heading to nukes after BC...

My son left April 12 for MEPS, but got to Great Lakes on April 13. Just the box and form letter is all we have received. I sent on Tuesday, April 20, stamps, envelopes, labels, writing pad and pens. Is that overkill or what? Hoping to get some kind of letter by Saturday.

Hi All, it's been awhile since I've been able to read all the post and there's been a lot going on. JoshuasMom, I'm really sorry to hear about you son but I always tell myself things always happen for a reason. I may not know at that time and I may never know but there is a reason. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Wow the conversation about he wisdom teeth worry me. I just wrote a letter to my husband asking if he had to get them removed. His have been bothering him since before he joined, so I"m thinking the took them out. What an experience. ..ehh! He's pretty good with pain but doesn't like going to the doctors or dentist, etc. So I'm curious to how he did. No news is good news right :)

I'm curious about the recruiter knowing your son was a grad n go. I thought you could only get that news from the recruit. One more question I'll have to ask our recruiter. Don't want to come off to much as the wife who needs to know everything :-/

Does everybody have there plans ready for PIR? Time is passing by, some days faster then others but its just the other day that I looked at the countdown and it said 45 days, now it's 42. I'm anxiously awaiting the day, which I'm sure everybody is too!

Well ladies, have a wonderful evening! Time for bed for me :)

Thanks, Elizabeth! I just called my DiL to tell her, and she will call the recruiter Friday to ask, too! What would we do without this site??? :-) Will you be attending the Meet and Greet at the Ramada on Thursday before the PIR?

MV Yes I called the recruiter initially to find out his address and his PIR date. He said not to hesitate if I had others questions he could help with. SO when I started to hear about Grad and Go I thought I'd call and ask him if that was something he could find out and he did.

My boyfriend just left last week and I miss him like crazy!!! He is in Ship 4 DIV 813. His family and I have still not gotten a phone call or letter. I support him 100% and I am so proud of him. It takes special people to serve their country:) I love you Honey.
