Great quote, Rackie.  I believe it is true that you are what you surround yourself with.  If you are surrounded by negative people, and you fail in helping them to be more positive, they will pull you down.  If surrounded by those who are positive, they will pull you up.  Kind of the glass half empty, half full philsophy!

Remember that this journey is just as much about you being in training as it is for our recruits.  Things change, schedules change, they can not always tell you everything, there will be times when you do not hear from them for a while, there will be ups and downs and everything in between, they will see people drop, leave the service, rollback and finish their training.  Focus on today and learn not to worry about tomorrow.  Always be encouraging and uplifting even when your heart is breaking, they do not need to be worrying about us and how we are dealing with things.  This journey is a difficult one for the ones at home and not knowing what is going on and hard to grasp when you are still so new to it, relax and breathe and it will get better.

Live your life as normal as possible, come to this site for support but do not stress over phone calls, letters and how they are doing.  Phone calls get missed or not made, it is not the end of the world even though it may feel like it at that moment.  We have wonderful recruits and who are on a new journey in their life and we need to be okay with the not knowing what is going on and not hearing from them as this may happen from time to time during their time in the Navy, the sooner you are okay with this the better for them as they do not need to know that we are stressing or worried about them.

If you are sad, lonely, missing them, angry or many other emotions come here where we know how you feel and we can lift you up.

This is the job that they have chosen and some of us have jobs that do not allow us to have phone calls at work, the same holds true for them, they will call when they can and after BC it does get better but there may be times when it gets worse.  We are so used to knowing everything about what they are doing and having instant contact, that it can be hard to break that habit but it will get better, hang in there and before you know it you will be at PIR.

If someone is really creative, it would be nice to print out everyone's profile pik/screen name to use for the nametags and bring them with you to GL.  You could could add your "real name" underneath. I know in one PIR group, one of the ladies did this for all in the group who were going to the MeetNGreet.

Thanks Mama C for the great idea to put our N4M names on our name tags!

Good Sunday Morning to all here!  I just jumped on this group today.  My son already PIR'd in May, but a comment caught my eye.  Needless to say, I've seen you all talk about the Meet and Greet.  We went to the Meet and Greet and I asked the lady at the sign-in desk to use my N4M's name on my name tag.  It was easier for people to identify me that way.  Not very many people will know your "real" name.  I actually had her write both - N4M's name first then my real name.  It worked so much better!  Met some neat people the night before and by chance, we ended up sitting next to the family at PIR that we met the night before.  It was so much fun!

These next 40 days will go by so fast!  Before you know it you'll be on your way to watch your son or daughter graduate.  The emotions will be all over the place!

MIDWESTMOM - We drove to PIR too - live in northeast Indiana near Ft. Wayne.  My family didnt THINK I was ADDICTED - they KNEW I was ADDICTED to this site!  It helped me so much and the people here are awesome!

Residence Inn on Waukegan Rd. is a nice place to stay - one bedroom suite was sufficient for our family.  My brother surprised us all and came up Thursday night.  We asked the front desk staff for a roll-away and it was there within minutes.  They have an outdoor pool and hot tub, small basketball court and a nice breakfast each morning.  Plus, it's close to Walmart and other restaurants, including Starbucks.

That's it for now on my comments - Hang in there, pretty soon you'll be hugging your SR!

Remember, ladies...RDCs are different for each division on if and when they allow phones calls.  My son was in 2 different divisions because he had been asmoed for a week.  His 2nd division did not allow as many phone calls as his 1st division did.  Just depends...
