Got my first letter the other day. She said she is doing good but its kicking her but. I am hoping to get a phone call this weekend it would be nice, but she knows to call my cell phone just in case I am not at home. Another letter would  be nice too but i'm not holding my breathe on that one lol.

A  MOMENT OF REMEMBRANCE!

In 1996, a humanitarian organization based in Washington, D.C., known as 'No Greater Love' conducted a survey on children and asked them why do they think there is a holiday on Memorial Day. It was agonizing to hear their remarks that were all associated with barbecues and extended weekend parties and celebration, while they hadn't the vaguest idea about the sacrifices of the soldiers in whose honor it is celebrated. One of the children was even quoted as saying that this was the day when swimming pools open!

Thus, the organization came up with the idea of 'National Moment of Remembrance' to remind and especially, let the future generations know about the real meaning of the holiday. The idea clicked with the President and Congress and since 1997, it became a standard American tradition. National Moment of Remembrance requires everybody to keep silent for a minute, exactly at 3.00 pm (local time) when 'Taps' is played and reflect on the glory of those who have shed blood for us. The federal government hopes to raise public awareness about the heroes and their valor by introducing this moment.

Joel B. no harm done!! You'll get your letter tomorrow, don't worry.  I bet you are nervous on asking her hand in marriage. Who wouldn't be? It's a lifetime commitment to one another. If I were you, keep it simple. talk to her from your heart. When my Joel and I got married last year, we only had 4 guest. I'm Filipina, as everyone knows, we have a lot of extension families. Most of my relatives had this huge-big wedding. What we both want is a GREAT marriage you see not a perfect-extravagant wedding. I'm not against a big wedding at all okay. Like i said, just keep it simple.Oh! I'm happy for you both!

From the last phone call I had from my husband, he told me that he would definitely call again this  Sunday, since Monday is Memorial day.  Now, things do change and  though I would be staring at my phone the whole day wishing he'll call. Have your phone ready 'cause you'll never know!

Joel B.: I'm from San Francisco. Maybe you'll get your letter tomorrow. I know we are all adults here but please post comments that are appropriate since this website can be access by any one including younger siblings or kids of SRs.

The base where PIR is held is very easy to get around. You don't drive very far at all onto base. You can see the parking area from the gate. I have driven on several other bases and this one is by far the easiest. Maybe that is because they won't let you go very far at all lol.

Susie-

Thanks for your encouraging words. I do feel better today and I know boot camp is suppose to be hard and things will improve for them. Just as a mother when you hear your children are struggling it breaks your heart. Moms are always the pick them up and make things better type of people. But they also need to learn and grow and these types of things will help them.

Karleen:  How are you doing? I hope that you are feeling a little better.  I just keep checking the mail. I am hoping with the holiday weekend, that our SR's will have time to at least make a short call home. Maybe that will put us all at ease. LOL Well hopefully it will put a little at ease. I just keep praying that all of our SR's are hanging in there and doing fine.  With the nasty cold weather here I have to have to hope that they are at least our silver linings. Take care and try to enjoy the long weekend.

Lala Ribbon Queen - Thanks for the information. I have been thinking about driving to the base. I just didn't know how hard it would be to get around. I have been to Scott Air Force Base in the past which is a little confusing, but had been there more than once which made it easier.  So thank you for the information about staying left.  That is the kind of information you generally find out the hard way. lol
