Our daughter was a grad and go. She called us the 4th or 5th week to tell us. She was crying and it scared me to death. I thought something was really wrong. I told her to calm down so I could understand what she was saying and no matter what we was we would get through it. She said I am a grad and go and I know it is too far for you to see me for just 7 hours on Friday. I told her even if I only got 5 minutes with her I would still be there and nothing could stop me from coming to PIR. She was so happy, I could tell she was really missing us. Most of them know they are grad and go (Saturday departure) or not at least a couple weeks before PIR. There is always a chance that it could change at the last minute but not usually. If their A-school is in great Lakes then you still get Friday evening, all day Saturday and all day Sunday with them, unless they have watch for a couple hours at some point during the weekend. Sadly there is also a chance that those who leave on Saturday could be on a chartered flight. It doesn't happen very often, only once or twice in the last year. My daughter found out the day of PIR that she was on a chartered flight. She along with over 150 sailors going to Pensacola all went on the same jet. They did not get to come in the airport and we didn't get to see them before the flight or give them their cell phones and other items. But try not to worry about that, it rarely happens. It is just more economical for them to charter a plane when they have so many going to the same place at the same time.

CrazyNavyMom...do you know when I will know if my son has any liberty after PIR or if he will be a grad and go?  Do they find out ahead of time or do they find out at PIR?

Sorry I haven't been around much lately...My 12 year olds last 2 weeks of school and it's crazy, so much to do and so little time!  Lot of help I am, but I love the count down timer!!!  Thanks for the great info CrazyNavyMom, very encouraging and great ideas. I also want to order LaLa's ribbons, they're beautiful!!

NyRican, maybe we should do what crazynavymom suggested. And also buy ribbons from lala. That would be awesome!

I would like to add a calendar event for a MeetNGreet  but I'm afraid I'm not a really good host, I could be a good assistant to anyone who would volunteer to be the host though.
