WillsMom:  When they can write is up to their RDC's but most are allowed to write 10 days to 2 weeks after arriving.  Some very generous RDCs may allow it earlier than that.  Sometimes what happens is...you will get your first letter from your SR asking why you haven't written when you have written tons of letters!  Usually what happened is that they were held from them, and they actually received them while their letter was in transit to you.  I'm not sure that the recruits are told that their mail is being held...anyway, don't panic if that 1st letter says that...they will get all of their mail!  They LIVE for mail so try and get favorite neighbors, friends, pastors, teachers, coaches, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends...anyone who meant something to your SR to write (maybe even give them pre-addressed stamped envelopes!).  I asked this when my son was there and he so appreciated hearing from important people in his life.  Remember, bootcamp is a "tear down" process at first...before it becomes a "build up" process.  It is quite difficult emotionally for most of them in the beginning and they need that support through the letters.  So...don't be shy!  ASK!  You will be surprised how many are honored that you asked them to write

I don't have any access on this group either. I'll ask NYRican first.

Diannep- Thank you for all the info., it's all very appreciated. They did post the 7-8 PIR on the Recruit Training Graduations page today with all the Division info. I would love to modify the title of this group by adding that info but I don't know that I was actually added as a co-administrator. I don't see a place for me to edit the content from my page. Maybe Joel's Rackie has those privileges??

Willsmom, Did you get the call on Sunday? ..Hope so. My son asked me if I'd rec'd the letter he sent yet, which I have not. I'm thinking that I'll get that as well as the letter from RTC very soon. Someone posted that their first letter (from RTC) came about 10 days after arriving at BC. BTW, did you see that Navymommo added the Ship 12 Div 224 group?

diannep23-do you know how long it is before they are allowed to write???  I've sure been waiting, but not receiving!

Comment by diannep on May 23, 2011 at 8:37am

Those getting SR addresses from the recruiters...be sure to check that address with your form letter address when you receive that (your SR write the address in the letter).  That is the correct address.  Sometimes the recruiter addresses may be a little different.  Letters will still get there even if it is a bit different...it may just take a bit longer.

Also, ladies, mail is held from your SRs for the first 2 weeks after they arrive.  You can still write, but they won't receive it until then.  They have to train the SR mail person since this is a "federal" job.

Karleen:  Sometimes there as many as 14 divisions graduating!  That is rare, but could happen in the summer months.  With the high school graduates flooding in over the summer, they have more recruits then.  Don't think that will affect this group...more likely the ones PIRing in Aug/Sept. Hoping that RTC has your grad date on the list later today.

SailorMom and Rackie:  The main thing for you all to do is to make sure no last names of recruits are posted on here.  That is forbidden....Navy security.  If someone slips and discloses one, please delete their post asap.  Just click on the "x" in the box.

A reminder to all ...to not include last names in your screen names.  I occasionally see where someone has done that on this site (not this group so far!).

Have a great day, everyone!

Just found this group. I'm excited to talk with other people who have kids graduating the same day. I didn't realize there were going to be more than one division graduating the same day.
