It's time for battle station 21! Keep our sailor recruits in prayers!

Well, I think I have caught up on all of the posts today! I am so busy trying to get clothes gathered, get my daughter a Picture Id (not necessary, just easier), take a sick dog to the vet and still make dinner and get ready to leave bright & early Thursday!  with a little more than 2 days left I am feeling overwhelmed.

I received a letter today:0) Of course my SR didn't say much, except that he is busy also and that he ordered and pd for his pictures, but at least it was something! I can now cry at a drop of a hat! I can't imagine what Thursday night and Friday will be like. I really think I better have my case of kleenx ready! LOL

I hope everyone has a safe trip to GL and hope to see as many of you as possible at the Meet n Greet!  Take care and God Bless our SR's going through BS today and tomorrow!!!! Will check back later!

Thank you all so much!!! I think I will unpack a few of the things I have for her. (I always overpack! LOL) Besides, she loves to shop, so I am sure we will do some this coming weekend!

OK, I will keep my Hertz rental car, and brave the driving! If my girly girl can make it through boot camp, I can drive in the city!!! (Small town, Mississippi is pretty easy!)

Once again, I look forward to meeting you all Thursday night and I can't say enough about this site. The couple of times I have talked to my daughter she is shocked I know so much already!! This site has been a blessing, and saved me so many times from lots of panic and tears!

zana:  No, he is not an AR yet.  All recruits are Seaman Recruits at RTC according to the  "A Family Guide to Recruit Training."  Maybe he didn't expect you to get the letter until Thurs!  :-)  But then he is an AN, I think, not an AR.  No more recruit!

Pretty neat, nicole!

sbenfamily:  I would just take her a few civilian clothes for when she phases up.  Some of them want more mailed to them later, and others like to buy a few up there.

Taxis in GL are expensive!  So I would do the rental car.  It is not a hard drive.  We drove from Ohare...just a couple of expressways and GL is not hard driving so don't worry.  You can do it!  You may have to deal with a little Chicago traffic depending on when you arrive.  We arrived around 3 pm on a Thurs and it wasn't bad.  You may want to opt for the IPass that will be offered you with the rental car.  They charge you for it, but then you won't have to worry about the tolls.

Don't be scared!  You will do fine!

sbenfamily: i was told by TSC that they can bring civis back to the barracks but just cant wear them until phase 2. and it depends on how long there school is and how well they do to be phased up, and can be phased back as well
Comment by ochaos on July 5, 2011 at 8:03pm

They get to have clothes during phase 2 liberty and will not have that for maybe a week, I would take a change of clothes for her to wear in your room because they can not wear anything except the uniform of the day while they are with you except in your motel room, they are not allowed out of your room unless in uniform.

There are good cabs around GL but I found the driving no problem, others find it hard to deal with especially coming from O'hare, everyone is different.  The drive to GL is not bad but can take some time depending on traffic, allow for extra time when returning to the airport.

Ok, two questions for those who have been to PIR already or who are going July 8th. I read someone said they can have civilian clothes during phase 2 of A school. She is staying in Great Lakes for A school. I am just afraid I am packing too many to be hauling through the airport alone. I'm flying in tomorrow, her Dad Thursday.

Also, I am on the fence as to whether or not I need a rental. I have one reserved at ohare but I am so scared of driving to Great Lakes. I am from a small town. Lol
Are cabs easily available in Great Lakes? Thank you all!

Diannep - I received a letter from my son today and his return address had AR instead of SR.  (he is going into aircrew)  Would that have change already?!?  He doesn't have Battlestations until tomorrow night.
