My daughter went to Pensacola.
Congratulations everyone! What a great experience this has been. Good luck to all the Sailors as they move on to A School. Anyone else headed to Pensacola?
Peggy- Ship 12 is the USS Triton so that's why they have that flag.
Our Sailors are off on their next step in life. Best of luck to all of them!
And thank you everyone for all your support on this sight, it was great.
Graduation was awesome!! I couldnt of been any happier getting to see my husband the last few days.. was sad to let him go again, but he will be home in a few months!
I just want to say thanks to everyone who helped keep me positive during the last two months!!
sitting here with red, swollen eyes and nose-my son just left a little over an hour ago. sniff sniff. We did go thru security with him, and were thankful for those extra hours.
dudiesmom: the commotion was that a diabetic woman apparently had a problem with very low blood sugar and passed out.
We highly recommend Jimmys Charbroil Steakhouse for anyone that's going to be in the Chicago area- not far from the Navy Inn, which is also great!
Can not recommend the Hilton at the airport-very pricey and no ammenities.
Navymommo- so good talking to you at the airport today, and wonderful to meet your son! God bless!
Well, what a great time we had at PIR! We got in Thursday night at the Ramada Inn. Went to the Meet and Greet a little late and I really didn't want to get up and talk. LOL> it was fun listening to everyone else though! :) Hung out in our room that night and got up in the am. Got to the breakfast around 5:30 am at the hotel and we left by car for the PIR at 6. Got in the HUGE car line at 6:15 am. Hubby was really irritated at the parents who bypassed the line, rode to the front and then wormed their way in ahead of everyone who waited for a long time. Had to calm him down haha.. and then we were in by 6:30 or so. They didn't check our registration or insurance.. just glanced at our gate pass and let us in.
We parked in the garage.. it wasn't bad at all.. the line into the hall went quickly and we were seated by 7 am. We had great seats at that time... it was a long wait and a COLD one! I suggest to anyone to bring a sweater or a coat! Brrr LOL.
There was a little commotion right before the start of the ceremony- did someone get hurt? We couldn't tell from where we were.. I hope everything was okay!
PIR was wonderful and exciting. When 226 came in and the cheering started.. it was great! The drumline was wonderful.. as was the band and choir. Just very emotional!
After PIR we took our sailor and went back out to eat. He wanted Chinese so we found a buffet and then he wanted to go walk around the mall. :) There were a LOT of sailors at the mall. :) One moment that was very touching was when a little boy about 4 years old came up to my son, tugged on his shirt and then shook his hand and said, 'Thank you sir". I think that made my sailor's day.
I can tell my son is loving what he is doing. He had such great stories about the friends he made, his bunk mate and all the fun things they did together at bootcamp. He just seems very contented and it was good to see.
We spent the time that was left just relaxing in the hotel room. He said 226 had until 8:30 but he wanted to get back early just in case... so we got in the big line to drop him off. He wound up just jumping out of the car on the street and walking with his friends through the gate.
We were debating what to do about getting him his phone and ipod. Well, it worked out great. He got to Ohare at 5:30 am and called us at 7 to tell us where to meet him. We checked out, had breakfast and got to the USO at Ohare at 10:30. What a nice set up for teh boys.. and it is so nice that it is outside of security. We only spent about 1/2 hour with him... he wanted to hang with his friends- esp the ones that he wasn't going to A school with. So I left with few tears because he just seems so happy with what he is doing! So it was a great experience.
The ride through Chicago on a Thursday rush hour wasn't good. ugh! But the rest was okay. We are in Ohio now and headed home to NY tomorrow.
It was great all the support on here except I really didn't get to meet anyone. We did sit behind Sarah.. the girl who won the picture for our divison on FB. :)
