Stop sending letters about a week before PIR (like in the next couple of days for you all).  If you want to keep sending them, make copies and take those to PIR with you just in case.  The mail is forwarded to them, but sometimes doesn't arrive.

Yep, FTLW is correct on those in "hold" being allowed to have cells on RTC....but none can return from liberty with them after PIR, like she said.  So don't get those mixed up!  :-)

lol...I was just contemplating that, Rackie!  I think I'll send my last letter on Saturday because it takes three or four days to get there from here...No mail Sunday or Monday.  I sure wish I'd get a call so that I'd know if he ordered pics for me or not.  I did call the NEX Photo Lab yesterday and they said that I can still order the yearbook, photos and DVD at PIR, but it will be sent to my home.

When should we stop sending our SRs letters?

Now see...it's just never the same! Mine was told he was a Grad n Go too. then I saw the change on the Family Guide and also posts on the Grad n Go Group saying that the term is obsolete.

dianne is very right here-your Sailor is going to be the best source of information. It's just that it might be at the last minute!

Even when my son flew out...I heard the gentleman at the airport, who was instructing them what to do, say that there had been a last minute change in the flight schedule for this particular group that was at the airport. About half were originally supposed to leave later in the day. I believe it was this half that did not have boarding passes and it took much longer to get them checked in. As a result we ran out of time and could not get pases to go through security and wait with them to see them off. By the time he would have gotten them they would already be aboard the plane.

Then there was a Sailor who had his cell phone in the NEX at RTC. I wondered about it and found out he was "on hold" for his school, so he was allowed his phone etc. Usually we say that they are NOT allowed their cell phones on RTC (This IS obviously an exception) dianne do you know anything about this? Just curious as to what "on hold" means.

I am staying until Mon evening, any earlier flights were twice as much.  Praying I get lucky and hubby doesn't leave until Sunday!

FTLW is right on!  Please book through Sunday just in case there are changed travel plans so you won't miss time with your sailor.  You can always do some sightseeing if they do leave out on Sat.!  That's what we did.

Well, actually, before fireteamleaderswife's time, back when my son first went to bootcamp (2009), GradNGo meant "flying out".  Those staying in GL sometimes didn't move over there until the following week after PIR.  I know my friend's son did that (May 2009) and she got Fri-Mon with him before he moved over there on Tues.  My son flew out on Sat, and was told he was GradNGo.  In fact, many still call home and say they are "GradNGo" meaning flying out Sat.  RTC will say they are phasing out this term, but it is still being used at RTC.  So don't be confused.  If they say they are GradNGo, ask what that means!

navywife:  Lucky for you that you will have Fri/Sat with your sailor!  He will have to return to RTC at night, but you will get daytimes.  UNLESS....they change the flights.  And sometimes that DOES happen.  But if he is not flying out until Sunday, that usually means that the flights on Sat were full...so hopefully he will keep that schedule.
