OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by joel's_rackie on June 16, 2011 at 4:29pm: Hi everyone, I'm sorry if i was MIA for a while.. been pulling extra shifts lately.. I hope everything goes well with our SR.

Ship12/Div224 is a push division, I think we are on week 5 already, got a letter today and Joel said that it was week4-day 4 when he wrote it (June16). He is saying that week 5 is a really hard one since a lot is crammed up into this week of training. He told me that they had the SAM-T already and the next in line is Gas Chamber. Which no one are not looking forward to. He also says that they are preparing hard for the final exam and final PT. Joel told me that what he hates the most is the Chief's inspections. He said, "Chiefs hates dust here, and if he finds" A" dust, we ended up doing push ups and curl ups numerous times that I even loose count. You should see how hard my stomach muscles are now Mahal (love). I look like a surfer dude! Awesome!"

They've been keeping them busy and he said they only had time to write on Sunday (and apparently not a lot then). Hopefully things will go better this week! 22 more days...

Comment by dudiesmom on June 16, 2011 at 4:08pm: Got a letter today from my son! He seemed in good spirits and was happy to get a complliment when he was standing guard so it was better then usual. I didn't see the date that he wrote it. He said getting his wisdom teeth out wasn't bad. He didn't feel anything and he had two days off to rest. LOL. It sounds like he is making friends with some guys who's moms are on this site, which is really cool. He did tell me he is leaving for A school at 2 am after graduation so we will only have Friday with him and I don't know even how much of that we will get to see him. :(

Comment by Lisa on June 16, 2011 at 2:50pm: I got a very short letter this week too. He said they were going to be extremely busy this next week. It was going to be "Hell Week". Lots of Inspections and Marlin Spike. I keep sending questions in my letters and rarely seem to get them answered.

Comment by Sonie (Ship12.Div 226) on June 16, 2011 at 2:14pm: J's mom I was thinking the same thing...I got my letter today and it wasn't a happy one like the others.When I talked to my son on the phone he hadn't received many of the letters that were sent,because he had asked if anyone was writing him. That was sad moment. He didn't say anything on Battle Stations either. The letter was depressing that was for sure. Hope it gets better for Div.226!

Comment by diannep on June 16, 2011 at 1:41pm: Well, they may be telling some of the SRs that...but if they have BattleStations next week, they would be sitting around for 2 weeks before PIR. Don't think that could be true. Been on the site for 1.5 yrs and never have seen that. But in the Navy...I have learned to never say never!

J'sMom: Just know....his letter was short and no so energetic, but it may have been written when he had a tough day and was very tired. I wouldn't read too much into it. They are UP and DOWN during bootcamp. Just like real life...some days better than others. By now, he could be much better anyway!

Comment by diannep on June 16, 2011 at 8:30am: Rob: They usually start BattleStations about 8 days before PIR...never before that. So for this PIR group, the first that they will start will be either Wed, Jun 29th, or Thurs, Jun 30th. They for sure won't go the week of Jun 20th. There is no PIR that week so there won't be BattleStations until Thurs night during that week...and it will be for PIR 7/1.

And some RDC's let them mail letters on more than once a week and not just hold them until Sunday. It took "Stalking the mailman" to a whole new level when the letters started arriving 2 to 3 days a week :-)
