Wow, that countdown clock is getting closer every day! Oh, um, that's what it's supposed to do......Anyway, good morning everyone. It's hump day and LETTER DAY! I'm praying for everyone to hear from their recruit this week.

You're right Anita, never too many shoes. Thanks Kim! Fletch, are imaging that morning and what's it's going to be like? I am.

I also got an extra letter yesterday. He didn't say anything about what he was doing though, except that they got the unexpected 20 minutes on Tuesday night to write if they wanted to. (smile). For those who read my excerpt from one of his letters, it was more about how he was feeling about the future.

On a lighter note, has anyone decided what they are wearing to the ceremony? In our other group I saw some were discussing it. I'm always cold (even in Calif) so am kinking something w/long sleeves but not too casual, like my usual jeans and a sweatshirt when it's cold.

My son is in ship 04 div 841. I think this is my first email to this group. I am just learning to navigate the site! I just wrote him another letter. In his last one he sounded a little homesick. He turns 18 tomorrow! We live in California. He has three siblings and me (widowed). It is nice to read other moms' comments. We have bought tickets to Illinois and I was so excited to see the countdown. I miss my baby :-) but I am so proud of him!

Lori, thanks so much for sharing. It seems that our 840-841 boys are a lot alike.

For those who are missing contact, either phone or letter, I really have empathy for you. I was so, so upset when I hadn't heard from B when others were getting calls. That's when our fears and lonliness kicks in. Everyone here has been there some time during this Boot Camp experience. I especially feel for the wives. You are so strong to keep going when you don't hear from your man for so long. I hope that coming here helps. If anyone needs to vent, I'm here for you. I also admire the mom's who have daughters in BC. You are amazing women, all of you.

Me too Ash and Bradlee's mom, one letter, either Wed. or Thurs. Mom of cjj & Kim, it's good to know that others are feeling the same as B. Talk to ya tomorrow,

Here's part of my son's latest letter (ship 4, dvi 841) "Can you believe that we iron in 30-minute shifts all night? You get woken up, iron clothes for 30 minutes, then go back to sleep! Last night (last Sunday) we didn't do that and it was great to have uninterrupted sleep!
Many say that BC gets easier as you go along. It is, and it isn't. You get treated better, but the work gets harder. I can't say enough how much better it is to be healthy. (he was sick for a week) The challenges are more motivating, and the day goes faster. It's going to be a long time before I see purpose in what I do, I mean major purpose. It's "yes, Chief, no, Chief" and just dealing with the small stuff you have to do. You do it knowing that this IS the purpose. You get through the dumb c**p so you can earn the right to do something important. 90% of us find all of this effortless. I just want to graduate and go on to have a real life (be it a military one). I don't even care so much WHAT I'm doing, although I have a preference, I just welcome the experience. Some talk about the world news and I wonder, when training for war is over, what war will I be fighting? It doesn't seem real, but a lot of us know it is. I've been dreaming, imagining, and training for what I didn't set in motion until now. When you feel as I do, that you are beginning to fulfill your purpose, you wonder what you have been doing until now, and why now? I guess I will see."

Marissa,
E stands for enlisted, there are nine enlisted rates from 1 being a recruit up to 9.
In the Navy E-2 is Seaman Apprentice. For more info on Naval enlisted rates go to: http://www.navy.mil/navydata/navy_legacy_hr.asp?id=260
