I agree with Lauren.  I myself, get motion sickness.  Every time I get on a plane I use the scopolamine patch vs. dramamine.  (Dramamine makes you sleepy...at least it does for me.)  It's like a small band-aid patch that can also stay on....even in the shower when she washes her hair.

How exciting....she's gonna get to see her big bro!  When is this taking place again?

JoAnn- Charlie looks great!  I love seeing our boys in uniform!

Janna - couple of things for her bring. flip flops for the shower (trust me on this).  A towel (not supplied), a flashlight (the lights aren't always on and hard to find things in your space without it, a lock for her locker (again, trust me, unfortunatley, theft does occur and never leave her stuff unlocked or unattended), a sweatshirt and a pillowcase (I never got one, so I wrapped a sheet aroud the pillow).  Pack lightly, but smart, as she won't be able to do laundry, and they requested that we use a collapseable duffle bag (storage is mimimal)  She will need cash and will exchange that on the ship if she wants to buy anything (there will be t-shirts, sweatshirts, bingo cards, etc plus there is a store on the ship). If she is a reader, bring a book or something to occupy her time, as there will be down time when shes waiting around.  Just wear tennis shoes, comfortable ones, lots of walking and lots of stadders.   Pack something for motion sickness but tell her, if it doenst' work, dont be ashamed, GO TO MEDICAL!  They will help her and trust me, everyone gets motion sickness.

WHen is she going?

Instructions

  1. For the Brownie layer:
  2. In a medium sauce pan, melt the butter over medium high heat. Add the sugar and cocoa powder once the butter is melted. Whisk to combine and remove from heat. Add the salt, vanilla and eggs and continuously whisk until the eggs are combined. Add the flour and continue to mix. Set batter aside.
  3. For the Cookie Dough layer:
  4. Cream together the butter and sugars in a mixer. Add the eggs and vanilla, making sure to scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl. Add the flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder and mix on low until everything is incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips. Set dough aside.
  5. Assembly:
  6. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.
  7. Line the bottom of a 9x9 baking pan with tin foil and then spray the tin foil with a layer of baking spray.
  8. Layer 1/2 of the cookie dough on the bottom of a 9x9 baking pan, pressing down to form the bottom of the slutty brownies. Reserve the remaining cookie dough to be used to make cookies later in the day.
  9. Layer as many oreos that will fit on top of the cookie dough. No need to overlap. One single layer will do.
  10. Pour the brownie batter on top of the oreo layer and make sure it's evenly layers on top.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Test with a knife to see if the center is done. If the knife comes out clean, let the brownies rest before serving. If the knife comes out with batter still on it, allow the brownies to bake about 5 minutes more.

I should also say that ribbon you use on the front, go with 1 inch wide ribbon, you can go with a wider ribbon, but make sure that your foam wreath is on the bigger side.  I also used 1/2 inch ribbon (with the polka dots) to help give it more pattern.  I LOVED the anchor ribbon, too cute!

FYI - I LOVE pinterest!  This is where i got the idea from.  TONS of great ideas, like using my KitchenAid stand mixer to shred chicken.  YEP!  Throw in a couples of cooked chicken breasts (no skin and must still be hot) into the mixer with the flat beater, turn to setting 2, and in a few minutes, shredded chicken!

I also made slutty brownies this weekend.  LOL.......brownies with a layer of cookie dough, oreo cookies and then double chocolate brownie mix. SINFULLY good and amazing warm with ice cream.  My youngest took a bite and I swear, said "mom, Im inviting the whole team over after baseball for these, best ever!"

Onto my next project...........

I made this for my front door, its my Navy Ribbon wreath.  I am NOT a crafty person, but Im trying (guess a kid leaving home opens up time).  Very easy to make.  Take a foam wreath, wrap in ribbon ( I would use ribbon at least 3 inches wide, you will need 3 of them, maybe four).  THis is backdrop and you only see if from the sides.  Next, cut pieces about 2 inches in lenght, doesn't have to be exact, and I would have on hand 4-5 different colors, patterns on ribbon.  fold in half and pin to the wreath.  Keep working around and do go in one direction.  Overall, took me about an hour and half.  You will need about 400 pins and get the really skinny ones (or your fingers will really hurt and I would recommend a thimble).  yes, its about 400 pieces of ribbon!
