Love you ladies! Ya'll let me rant like a crazy woman and don't make me feel bad. Who needs a therapist when I have you guys!
Janna - Is Chris enjoying fleet week? I've always wanted to see what it was like, how cool for him! I lived in San Fransisco for 2 years when I was young, sister was born there.
Sylvia - Casey is talking about getting a car or truck when he's done with deployment, he HATES not having any freedom. I think when I go up there to meet his ship, we will go vechicle shopping.
Im proud of my son, very proud but there is this nagging worry that I have, that he will be ok? That this was the right decision for him, that his life will be better because of the Navy and I have to say, I kinda pushed him with it. He talked about it forever and I said, put up or shut up. School, work or the Navy, CHOOSE! There are days when I just want him home. Then I remember his sea bag throwing up all over the place. LOL. Talk about bi-polar. We all want better for our kids than what we had and I remember how scared I was at his age, the whole adult thing. Guess I gotta cut the cord someday.
Sylvia - Casey waited for what seemed forever, and I know that the sitting around did NOTHING for him. That was when we were the most worried becuase he was just so over everything at that point. Being a the ship, hes out for 7-8 months, which is a long, long time and few ports inbetween. In the almost 3 monhts, have had 2 ports. Whats getting to the guys now if cabin fever, no place to go and they are really getting on each others nerves. Worried about the holidays coming up and how he will do. So far, he's "bucked" up well, said it is what it is but I really doubt he will re-up, which brings another set of worries. Affter his 5 years, what will he have to show for it? I really hope he does college because alot of service personal seem to have a really hard time finding work after they get out.
OK - naked guy. MIddle of the night, he says he was just getting some ice and thought he left his door open. Ice machine was right next to his room but WTH, WHO in their right mind does that in the midddle of the night. He claims he woke up, he sleeps naked and was thirsty. goes back to his room and door is shut. Comes downstairs, he was on the 3rd floor, with the ice bucket covering his man parts. Oh, and he was a big guy, like 300+ pounds. Auditor has to have security go with him to the room, as obvioulsy he doens't have any ID on him and if he did, we didnt want to see it. :-)
Ten minutes later, dumb dude is back, hands now covering his parts, this time he was getting the soda he forgot. ARE YOU SERIOUS? The night auditor told him if it happened again, he was calling the police for indecent exposure.
How did I find out? AUditor, who has a quirky sense of humor, leaves me a note to review camera 12 at 2:45AM (aprox), that there was a situation at the desk. Im sitting there, with my boss, who is in town doing an audit and lo and behold, here comes naked guy. I saw the guest the next day at the desk and I swear, I could't even look at him.
Next time I'll tell you about PORN guy and his missing wedding ring.
You know, I think of Charlie and his long wait to get out to sea on a ship. And I think of all that Casey went through and finally got on a ship. But that's my point....they are and will be on a ship. I guess there is a reason for everything.
God works in mysterious ways. Who knows why he didn't put my boy on an actual ship.
On the bright side, Mike bought a new truck. He just made his 1st truck payment. A black Ford Ranger. We about died when he told us it was a 2010 model. And his insurance seems awfully high for never having gotten a ticket. Oh well. At least he has his freedom. Also, he is living off base in some apartments. Yep...the apartments have nothing but Navy dwellers. It's managed by civilians and I guess the Navy cuts costs that way? The Navy gives him like housing allowance? In other words, they don't take anything out of his paycheck to pay rent of there. (Believe me, we worried that they did!) I have no idea how the Navy can afford this in this rough economy. Paying boys to do nothing. All being overmanned. None of this makes sense to me.
LOL.....I just read all my last 3 comments. Man! Do I sound Bi-Polar or what?!?!!!! Hahahahahhahahaha!!!!!!!
Hey gang. My boy is still in Norfolk. Waiting and waiting for his "job" to start. He is done with training. But because Navy is so overmanned, he and his group are still reporting to a classroom and pouring over manuals/textbooks. They keep pushing back the start date to get into the Fleet Weather Center Station. He has visited it a few times, he describes it as a NASA type place. Lots of rows of desks with computers, giant television monitors with satellites, TVs with Fox & CNN running too.
He just seems so sad and bored. Bored because the Navy is paying them to just sit around and wait. And sad because he will never likely be on a ship in the 4 yrs that he's contracted for.....and that is what he wanted more than anything! (To be on a US Naval Ship)
He's got 1 yr down. Now he's contracted for 2 yrs there in Norfolk and the final 4th, he probably won't re-up. He has been so dissillusioned by this whole thing. Breaks my heart.
Guest calls this morning, asking about lost and found. Just an FYI - the lost and found area is huge in a hotel. You would be amazed at what is left and we have to keep for 90 days. I asked him what he left, he said he would rather not say. Are you serious? Said he was in room XXX and to look under the toliet tank lid. Go to the room and sure enough, theres the dudes pot, and based on whats there, Im going to go with its not for personal comsumption. (however, to call a hotel after you just checked out yesterday and ask for your illegal substance, puts you at the top of the duh list). No problem I tell the guest, you can pick it up today, just let me know when, as it will be locked in the safe that only I have access to. He says he will be here in 30 minutes. I call my police buddy, who says he will be in the area during that time should the guest show up. Guess what, HE DID! He was met by the police, with his lost and found. Look on his face was priceless.
