Good for Sam for stepping up to the plate.  As far as involvement, I would take my cue from Sam, slowly develop a relationshiop with the mom, and go from there.  As they aren't a couple (?), at least I didn't think they were, that presents challenges, but you will know, in your heart, what is best for you.  Praying for you and Sam, and of course, little Lacey.

Dealing with issues right now with my stepson - he's 24, no job, just totalled ANOTHER car, his drivers license is supsended for not paying tickets, lives with his girlfriend in the ghetto (yes, trust me, no way in h*** would I go there after dark, barely want to drive there during the daylight), seems to have ZERO ambition to get a job, always some excuse and they of course are short of money.  Hubby has finally said no more money but now hes wandering if they should move in with us until they get on their feet.................uh NO!  Im not running a boarding house for lazy people.   I have to becareful in what I say, not my kid and I know how I want mine to be treated, but he's 24!  GRRR

Cathy: Sam is a strong man.  He really stepped up to the plate.  It is hard for you too.  As to how much involvement the baby mamma will allow, baby blankets, etc...  Praying for Sam and you that it all works out smoothly.

Yes, he's currently in Norfolk. He is just not very communicative with us lately.  I recall him saying something about being transferred to Pensacola? I swear the Navy can't seem to decide on anything.  He's been to Pensacola, Biloxi, Mississippi and Norfolk.  I wish they'd send him to San Diego! arghh!

Yesterday was the official first day of fall and it was 104 here.  I'm thinking thats not fall weather.  Loooking forward to next month, when we can open the doors and windows and get a breeze going!

Lauren: "things"?

Cathy, I pray all goes well for your son.  I know exactly all to well in what your going through.  Our son's "baby-mama" is due in early November.  She is wanting him to attend some kind of "Baby-Daddy Bootcamp".  And she also asked him if he was going to be there for the birth.  The thing of it is....they don't speak to each other...only text.  (What is WRONG with this younger generation and their lack of communication skills?!??.  I can't stand that they would rather TEXT than speak face to face!!!!)  Anyways, this girl gets very upset whenever he talks about paternity tests.  She gets extremely upset and says, (and I quote) "What's wrong with you?....It's your baby, deal with it.  From what Mike tells us, she is quite promiscuous.  2 week prior to meeting up with him, she had a boyfriend. Then after Mike, she "dated" another sailor.  So who knows?

Regardless, our son has been advised by senior officers (who've walked in his same "baby-daddy" shoes) to keep the mama happy or there will be hell to pay later.

Cathy: What kind of paternity test (blood or saliva swab) does the Navy regard as official?

Trish- I think my son almost didn't take the test too. (He kind of gave up with pursuing a Navy career.  But we convinced him that if this does turn out to be his baby, he is going to need the extra money for child support.  So we stressed that he needed to take the E4 test.  Maybe your boy is feeling disillusioned with a navy career too?

Anyways, Mike is taking his E4 exam today again, for 2nd time.  Last time he passed the written portion....but failed the PT part.  He was 7 sit-ups short of the timed sit ups.  He says the Physical Training part is to take place in early October.  Is this correct gang?....or is my son lying again?  Feels like High School all over again.....with me checking on him.  ugh.

Me: Did you take your Algebra test today?

Mike: Yea.

Me: How do you think you did?

Mike: dunno yet. We find out next week.

Reality: Test was taken the previous week, graded....and failed. And he knows it, but isn't telling us.

Cathy - how do YOU feel about the baby now that she's here?  I can imagine that you are holding off until the paternity test.  Poor Sam, it will be a wild ride for the next few weeks, but thats adulthood.  Funny how they all want to grow up so fast, but I think we all know, being an adult isn't all that it's cracked up to be!

JoAnn - so happy for you that Charlie was hope and yes, our weather held up well while he was here.  I know that you are going to say its too hot, and yes, it's hot but on the bright side, weve had a milder summer than summers past?  :-)

Lauren - Casey left a few weeks ago :-(  He works full time in security now, wrote me a few days ago, said he was going to the ships dr for sleeping pills, and havent heard anything since.  My sister watched the carrier, said she loved it.  I will watch it, its been a roller coaster of emotions lately, with him going on back ot back deployments.  Guess you could say Im a little bitter, but getting better.  Going on the Tiger Cruise was an eye opener and I HIGHLY recommend it for any of you, if you get the chance.  He signed up for this, its just too bad he hates it so much.  Oh well, guess its a good life lesson to learn.

Janna - prayers to Chris today, taking his E4 exam.  I could only wish that Casey would, but he has zero interest............such a disappointment.

JoAnne...how's Charlie? It just occurred to me....Charlie must have been home last week during one of your state's now famous Arizona "Sand-Dust Storms".   Those things look like something between a Tsunami-type cloud and something from 9-11. Hope it skipped your town.....and Trish's town too!

CathyJ....any official word yet?
