Shannon-I will say a prayer for you daughter. My daughter is carrying the Louisiana state flag.

Boxermom-I'll will be praying for son and a speedy recovery after his surgery. My son had sinus surgery at the GL VA and they did a great job. After he was cleared, he came home for three weeks convalescent leave so was able to be part of my CDR hubby's retirement ceremony.

boxermom--that is a GREAT idea about the cards!! I am so going to do that..Calimom and I had already talked about the 15th being cut off and we still write and give it to them to read on plane later..but I like the card idea too cause it was really upsetting me for him to not have mail coming in..my son said thats the greatest feeling hearing his name called and having that!
we are staying in great lakes through the weekend after we see him off to see
some of the sights so if you need anything or need me I'll be glad to help out during your son surgery..even if its just for an ear or shoulder! be sure to look me up at the meet and greet so we can swap numbers or email me if you would like it.

I have already written to my SR and told him that mail from home will stop about 10 days before PIR,i have bought 10 inspirational card and im putting just little notes in them now,I told him to just open 1 per day so it will seem like hes still getting mail.He totally thinks im a goof-ball,but i dont want him feeling lonely or forgotten in his last week.

I finally found out that my PR will have his surgery on 9/2,we have pre-op on 8/28.his surgery is at the VA hosp so we will be able to go to pre-op and surgery w/him.The gf and i are staying on in GL for a couple extra days in hopes that they let him come home for his convalecent leave. This surgery is make or break of his NAVY career,so we could really use all your extra prayers, this is his dream since the 8th grade.
My PR's gf is not a problem, they have both been told in no uncertain terms that PIR weekend is family time, she is more than welcome to go w/us but not to exspect any alone time,we will all share as a family.
wolf grrl- thank you so much for posting that, took alot off my mind especially since we will have the extra exspence of 2 more days there for his surgery.
