Liberty is different than Leave.  Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved.  Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to…Continue

Hi Ya'll, looks like everyone had a great weekend! I got a 2min call Fri afternoon...fired a million questions at her...she didnt pass her run...again, missed by 45 sec..she has tendonitis in both ankles so that is hurting her alot!! I do have a friend whose step son is and RC, his class just PIR'd fri...he said the RC will do everything in his power to make sure his DIV passes all tests, if they (RC) have any failures in their DIV, it is a bad reflection and they are accountable for that! SO....I hope she passes! I'm still afraid to buy plane tkts! She's scheduled to carry the New York flag, flag 21 at PIR..thats all I got! Have a good day at work!!!

Jopers-I agree with your observation of the article-good from the view point of wolf grrl--each family will have a different perspective. When you here the National Anthem playing and the recruit is standing at attention and rendering a hand salute, a civilian could show the same courtesy by placing your hand over your heart, OR if wearing a hat, take the darn thing off and place it over your heart.

But the whole key is flexibility! Tide-to-go pens are a must! And, I believe the recruits will be able to change into their "peanut butter cups" (khaki and black uniform) while on liberty. Also have your tissues at PIR that is a must.

Jopers-I am praying for Cameron. Hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick.

I have been worrying about Cam and that coughing up green stuff all weekend but no news is good news. He was going to Medical and I hope that they gave him some antibiotics so he can continue on his journey. I have bullied alot of people to write to him this weekend, so hopefully as the deadline for sending mail draws near he will still be getting some.

That was such an interesting article, but as with all people each recruit is different and each recruits family is different. One thing for sure. What ever Cameron wants to do is what I want to do. Thanks for the info and I too agree about the respect we show our future sailors and the training that they have been through by respecting their rules, our anthem and flag. Luckily non of us smoke and I am so worried about him wearing white for the whole time, I am taking a couple of Tide to go pens. I will talk to his GF about public affection showing. But then they don't "make out " infront of me anyway.

Yes you must read Wolf Grrl's PIR experience. It was so enlightening to have in depth detail of the do's and don'ts of PIR. Thank you so much Wolf Grrl!!!!!

Please take a moment to read Wolf Grrl's discussion above titled "My PIR Experience", it's great!

Some of the things she shares you may already know, but what I really like is what she DIDN'T do - they didn't plan every moment of their time with activities for her sailor! She was able to stay in Great Lakes until Tuesday when her Sailor flew to A-School (so she wasn't a G&G).

A documentary series called, "Carriers" will air on PBS. It follows several sailors around and we get a real glimpse of what life on board an aircraft carrier is like for a sailor. There are 4 different episodes. I bought the DVD and it's about 10 hours worth of worthwhile viewing. My son saw it several times before leaving for boot camp. Set your Tivo/DVRs for: PBS channel. "Carrier". 12 midnight tonight. 2 episodes tonight back to back. Tuesday. 9pm. And lastly, Thurs.- 3am in the wee hours. I wish they had a documentary like this about their boot camp journey.

Trishar, I think your son will have a good shot at getting a seat to see his bro graduate. We do have only 5 divisions graduating after all. We ourselves put down 4 people were attending but as it turns out his grandparents can not make it. So it will be just his dad and I. I'd just get there early, in case after all who are on the list are once seated, younger bro can be one of the first to get any left over seating. In other words, there might be a 2nd list that day for standby seating....so get there early as possible. Good luck!
