Its hot again today :-). msbabyphat--it is so hard sometimes to keep telling one's self the good old adage "No news is good news" and I would agree that that advice is so hard to heed--I am right there with you in the desire to hear from my recruit. Each recruits is so different however, four years ago when son was in bc, we got a grand total of 4 letters from him, and that only happened after I sent him a pre-addressed stamped envelope and a strong hint to WRITE ME! Hubby sometimes was that way on deployment...days run into days and they lose track bc they are so busy. But I know that I was never far from his heart. My daughter and I are just copious letter writers--I don't know if that is more a female thing :-) Hang in there...can you believe that we are getting so very close to PIR!!!!!?

Speaking of weight issues and physical fitness...I have been following the threads on this subject and I want to let everyone know that boot camp will not be the end of the physical fitness regime. The U.S. Navy has what is known as a "Culture of Fitness" With the exception of the U.S. Marine Corps, the Navy is pretty strenuous in ensuring all sailors, both enlisted and officer, stay within weight and fitness standards. Most commands have frequent group PT's(two to three times a week during work hours) or a person is expected to PT on their own, and every six months most EVERYONE(except the sick, lame, pregnant, or medically waivered for some condition, etc) is required to complete the same PFA(Physical Fitness Assessment) that the recruits are required to pass before graduation. Most of the time this is done as a command function. If one does not pass, or is out of weight standards, then they will get put into a FEP(fitness enhancement program) to assist the service member to reach fitness and weight goals. The Navy takes this very seriously--although some sailors joke about running 1.5 miles on a "regular" basis--meaning they only run 1.5 miles TWICE a year :-)

Cathyj, how does your son know he has gone from 180 to 205 lbs? Did he say that the recruits have access to a scale?

Hey Texas Mom - I try to remember that saying "No news is good news", but the mom in me just wants to hear is okay. I know my son would laugh and tell me to stop worrying over him like he is a baby-LOL-but I try to tell him that we are moms 24/7 so to worry about our children is normal!! But he still laughs and says "Don't worry mom, I'll be fine" LOL

Hi everyone! just trying to catch up on posts. Busy around here football and cheerleading season has begun!! Went to the pro football HOF parade yesterday to see our daughter and fellow cheerleaders march with the band. Have our local parade on Sat. I have alot to be excited about. Got my blue light bulb today so I decided to put it in our outdoor fixture on the front porch. Thought it would be better then inside. I also got a Navy flag to put up after he calls to tell me he is offically a SAILOR!!! My family laughs at me because of the way I am. I totally get into everything the kids do and dont have any problem showing how proud I am.

I also reread the letters. That a great idea about scanning them into the computer. How funny will it be to reread those in a few years? I want a picture of all of us at athe M&G. I want to show my son all of the moms who are helping each other thru this. Didnt know if it would possible but maybe we could do a group picture with our sailors after PIR? Not sure how we would get that done but just a thought. Ok off to clean YUCK!!! Have a great day!!

Trishar: Can his brother be added to the list? It may be too late, but he should ask. Are you already up to your 4 limit on the list? If so, chances are his brother will still get in with proper ID, but he may have to wait until all on the lists are in before he can get a seat.

Two days away from you guys and you wrote 9 pages!! Hope all is well with everyone. No call but did get a letter on Wednesday. Hope to hear from him soon.
The RTC site on facebook might work better then the video, for sighting folks in 941. You can study the pics. The ones from the past PIR's have shown some of the flags etc. marching in.

Casey wants his brother to come with us for Graduation, but hes not on the list. What do you think the possibility of him getting in with half of the normal divisions at PIR?
