Liberty is different than Leave.  Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved.  Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to…Continue

NukeMom: I hope he does wear his uniform to PIR. It is really neat to see the retired guys there in uniform! Very sharp! If ever he wore it to anything, this would be the place to wear it!

Zac's Mom - That poem just hits straight to the heart and home. It portrays what I have been feeling since he left. It's beautiful! Did you write it? Awsome!

Whats funny is that me and my husband dont watch much television but we make sure we watch Army Wives and Drop dead diva together. THere are only 3 episodes left and there are only three weekends left. So it finish the starting week of PIR. How cool is that.

Okay, I FINALLY got a letter, I believe written Sunday, Aug 1. It is long so I won't transcribe it, but here's some highlights:
Bunkmate is "Jonathon Brandon S-----, the man with three first names." [Is this mom on here?]Thinks boot camp is boring [huh?]. Base is pretty spread out and takes a long time to walk anywhere. Passed his swimming test [I'm shocked because he hates the water!] and his first fitness assessment. Divisions 288 and 287 are 50/50 men/women. 288 is "Grad and Go." Has had three phone call opportunities, but they've been "missed or cancelled" [huh?]. Shower time is 45 mins for 89 people. Likes his Assisting Chief Petty Officer, who is also a Nuke. Here's what he misses: "music, computer games, jogging, wearing clean clothes, being alone, cooking my own food, fresh vegetables, cheesecake, reading, driving, napping, sleeping in, Teriyaki, beer, movies, carpeted floors, watching the news, and seeing everyone in Seattle. Other than that it's just like home." This week there is a personnel inspection, a weapons turnover inspection, an academic test and quite a bit of "exercise." He's been sick, like everyone else, and he's gained some weight. He got to meet a Nuke Master Chief who told them all about A school. "It sounds like fun and I can't wait to get there." Lastly, he asked his dad if he'd wear his AF uniform to PIR (he's retired. Not sure he will since I could never get him to wear it, not even at our wedding). Are any of our retired military parents here thinking of wearing their uniform?

CaliforniaMom - that boot camp story was hilarious many times, but seriously it gives us an even more perspective of what our sons/daughters have and are going through. The urinal part had me heehawing and still tickled. Thanks, I needed that!

Jophers - thanks for video that had info on Marlin Spike. I had watched before, but didn't realize it was on there.

CathyJ- Those GirlFriend's can sure be hormonal at that age. Tread carefully though, if your son put her on the guest list. I certainly hope GF doesn't expect to have him ALL by herself or even an hour alone with him. That would not be fair to you all his family. I'm sure your sailor has grown a lot since boot camp and has learned what is most important in life: FAMILY!
