So Cameron definatly didn't get paid. I have written to him but say it takes 10 days for him to get a letter he will miss next pay day too if the error is not corrected. I went to the Navy recruiter office 3 times today and it was closed all day. I am at a loss for how to get him to sort this out, or will the Navy catch it on their end. Anny thoughts anybody.

I have just sent a letter to Cameron asking him when BS21 is for them, he is in 941 same as Eryn and Trush's son so it should be Monday 23rd. Can you guys believe only 21 days away. So excited for them. I of course will not leave the house on the 24th.

So a blue candle when recruits are doing BS21. For how long? And what is the story behind this tradition? I have tried to google, but nothing really coming up.

TxNavyMom-Thank you so much for that story. I have always tried to teach my son and daughter that you never know when something you say or do may have a profound influence on someone, and maybe not even the person you thought it would. Thanks.

I was teaching middle school four years ago when my son was going through boot camp. I let my principal know the situation(I had a very wonderful lady-thanks Debi), but I also let my students know. I talked to them all the time about my son and boot camp. So, despite the rules, all my classes made an agreed to make an exception for me during that week that I was expecting my son's call. Everyday all the 8th graders were so giddy with excitement waiting with me for "The Call" came during my 5th period American History class--the kids were absolutely as excited as I--after receiving the call the phone was turned off and put in my purse. Soon the whole school knew--Cathy, I taught at Keller Middle School(Great school). Because of that "teachable" moment I had two of my eight graders join the military(one Navy, one Army). I still remember the day that one of the young men came back to the school(I was on duty in the cafeteria) I felt this tap on my shoulder, turned around and saw this very handsome young man in uniform! This was an at risk kid that I had once heard another teacher say would amount to nothing :-{. However, I had standing before me a very confident, and proud young man. Do you know what he said to me? "Mrs. M I wanted to come back and thank you for your inspiration." How does one respond to that? I felt that I was just doing my patriotic duty as a teacher and sailor to instill such values in my students.

I know longer teach since my husband retirement from the Navy. We opened a small wood fired pizza restaurant that is by reservation only--I have alot of flexibility since we are opened only three days a week and are filled to capacity on those days. Do I miss teaching yes...do I miss grading and lesson planning....no! But I think about my students such as Micheal all the time.

CathyJ- just make sure it's NOT on vibrate. That could make for some very interesting dancing in front of the class!
