I GOT MAIL TOO!!!..dated July 23rd so it was before phone call so pretty much alot of what he told me on the phone call was in the letter..it was funny cause he said "I'll be getting a call next week so keep you phone close Mom"..he had no idea how tight I was holding that phone all day that day..LOL...he did tell me that they had their first uniform and rack inspection that week and of course without warning so they failed and got 'beat'..but told me not to worry cause they wouldnt fail the next one :-) ..he did tell his sister in the letter though that he did get homesick alot just wishing he could talk to us (this made me cry of course)..but he said he tries not to focus alot on that and just focus on what he has to do that day one task at a time..that his division has really united as a unit in these last weeks cause they learned real quick they were in this together for good or bad...said that he passed his first of three tests (which was the one they got the flag on they all told us on the phone) said it was a big relief because they had to pass them three tests to graduate, so they got two more coming.. and that basically it except for what else we already knew from the phone call.......so the phone call was a hot fudge sundae and my letter was the cherry on top!!

no girl in the picture here. I actually write him yesterday with a self addressed envelope and a questionaire and wrote in big letters YOU NEED TO FILL THIS OUT AND SEND IT TO ME IF I DONT GET A PHONE CALL. Then I formed my questions in yes or no form. You know circle which one fits. At the end I said NOW PUT THIS IN THE ENVELOPE AND SEND IT BACK TO ME!!!!!! I hope this works. LOL Feel kinda bad that I have to yell at him in a letter but....

Trishar-how funny! My daughter had a "hard" time the first few time in the poop department. I told her she needs to get used to it, I never did this, but my husband said on the ship they used to yell as other guys "down stream" "hey could you provide a courtesy flush please!" hmm Anyway they will all have to get used to at least doing number 1 in front of a person on occasion. Urinalysis for drugs is a regular activity in the fleet(Navy is very zero tolerance) and one must pee in a cup in the presence of the Urinalysis Coordinator. I had this job in one of my commands, and it is amazing how even the most seasoned veteran can "freeze up" Well so much for today's bathroom humor :-)

CathyJ - they look amazing, thank you! Looking foward to meeting everyone.

Shannon1268 - I so needed that laugh this morning, thank you! My son did mention the bathroom situation, where the toliets are out in the open and either back to back or facing each other, don't know, but anyway, he did say that he had a pooping buddy. Now, I have 3 boys, this this type of thing no longer suprises me, but I have to admit, of all the times to bond with another human being.

Joey and Nukes mom - while I have gotten a few letters, very short mind you and a phone call, I would wonder if there is a girl in the picture. My son swore that there isn't anyone, however, he asked me to get on his facebook and make sure that there wasn't anything bad on there since he left and lets just say, yep, there is a girl in his picture. Also, my son did say that their "free time" is spent getting ready for inspections, studying, etc. Keep writing, send a peice of paper addressed to Dear Mom, with a self addressed stamped envelope, that may do the trick. I also really recommend a questionaire, and again, with a envelope made out to you. My son is NOT a writer and without it, I don't know how much, if any, information I would get.

Good morning all! Yep nikos mom isn't it strange what bc does to you? I was a vegetarian before I left for bc, but learned really quick that if I didn't eat was was served, I wasn't going to eat! I still remember the first hamburger I ate(my first taste of red meat in 4 years)the world did not come to an end...and I did not explode from eating meat.

Eryn is missing our wood fired pizza too! The only way I can convey what the recruits are feeling in regards to food, is like being stranded on a desert island. One may have things to eat as what is available on the island, but you really start to fantasize the things you can't have :-)

Joey and Nuke's mom-I am sorry that your recruits are not writing. Some guys are not writers. My husband was this way when on deployments sometimes, and it took only one time that the skipper's wife wrote her husband(this was in the days before email) that the Ensign was not writing his wife--well you can guess what happened :-) Maybe on the outside back of letter you send them, write in big colorful bold letters "PLEASE WRITE!!!" I know that sounds extreme but if the RDC sees that, then there might be a little "gentle" prodding for the recruit to write.
