Liberty is different than Leave.  Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved.  Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to…Continue

Oh yeah. Before I go to work...we are making part of our trip to GL into a business trip. We own a wood fired pizza restaurant and so would like to check out some of the Chicago pizza places up there. Nikosmom-Eryn said she wants Greek food while we are there. Any suggestions?

Same here in Texas-if you don't like the weather just wait 5 minutes!!!. My father's family is from North West Kansas-Hoxie Kansas. I fondly remember playing hide and seek in either the corn or wheat field at the family farmstead. I do think that the lightening "shows" in Kansas are the best hands down! However, Jax has all places beat, I think, with the number of lightening strikes. We lived there before surge protectors were common and we lost a VHS and tv to a lightening strike--the tv literally BLEW out in front of our eyes!! And I learned in Florida-we lived in P'cola and Jax that one could experience 100% humidity WITHOUT rain! :-)

Diannep what a great idea. Me? what a sap! I got choked up just looking at all the T-shirts and other stuff! I had to quit or my co-workers would wonder why my "eyes were leaking.".

How this for weather changes?--December 23 2009 74 degrees and we got a sunburn as we worked building a dining area for our restaurant. December 24 cold front came in and by night fall we has a full fledged blizzard. We had to pick up Eryn in town and a 15 minute trip took 3 hours. My son and a buddy were coming from the base in Ft Worth to join us for Christmas--a 1 and half hour trip took 5 hours. We pulled a man who had gotten stuck in the snow and was far from home--we took him into our home for two days. Some would ask the question "Why in the world would you take in a perfect stranger?" My answer-on the eve of our Lord's birth no one took His mother and Joseph in. A perfect and meaningful Christmas--the best we have ever had. When the holidays come and your sailor comes home--remember to be ready for the sailor "buddy" who has no where to go. My fondest memories are of sharing our home with service men and women.

I am so sorry for what has happened to the beaches in Florida. We spend at least a week each year at the Navy Lodge in Pensacola(it sits on a bluff right above the beach, however, not knowing what was going to happen we canceled our plans this year...I sure wish I was sitting on the beach with a cool one right now :-)

Ladies: Don't forget to order your license plate frame supporting your new Navy sailor! I got one that says "I'm a proud Navy mom." Actually cafe press mentioned by m'smom below may have them too. I just googled Navy license plate frames and looked through the sites until I found what I liked.

My youngest is starting football season for high school and we always worry abou the heat. Water break every 15 minutes, but they get used to it. When he starts baseball in the winter (and I use that term loosely) you can tell who has been here a few years. WHen the temp gets below 60, the winter coats come out. We will be sitting at the baseball game in March, low of about 50 and we are dragging out the blankets, portable heaters, etc. Guess the blood thins after awhile.
