Liberty is different than Leave.  Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved.  Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to…Continue

yeah its really hard to let them go and not be there to try help them..my hardest part is not being able to just talk to him everyday to hear how things are going and then when I do hear in the letter it just makes me want to be able to call and say how was that or ok when you do you do that....
my son was on track too and he practiced his running alot before he left..he was running about 4-5 miles a day to try be prepared because that was the one thing he was the most worried about

nikosmom and m'smom: You all are not alone. Several have pm'd me worried about the failed run. I'm praying that all get it together, motivate each other, and get it done! I think they will. I am praying daily for all of these recruits and their tests...

On changing the rates....someone on another site had her rate changed (she is a recruit) without her wanting it. Told that there was no room for her in her enlistment rate. She was told that she could possibly change back in 2 years. So I don't know...but I know that they are overmanned in the Navy right now...so there are no guarantees on any rate. I have a friend with a son still in the aviation school program....over a year now. He entered bc as a rescue swimmer (6 yr program) but realized in bc that he wasn't going to make it in that (he is 31). So he changed to this. He just told me recently that he would like to change to a 4-yr program now, actually the rate my son is. I don't know how easily he can do that...nor did he. He had been setback to the beginning of a course (2 months in) for failure of a test and was discouraged. Anyway, your recruits will need to talk to the POWERS THAT BE up in Great Lakes to see.

Matt didn't pass his run either. He is a swimmer and has not done alot of running at all. He hadn't been in a pool for 3 years and passed the swim test for Rescue swimmer the first time in. He wouldn't listen that he needed to work on the run before he went. He was doing an ok time so he was fine! I guess they will be working on that, maybe together. How do they handle those that don't pass the PFA, as he called it? I know I have read it but can't remember now that I need that information!
Matt also mentioned that he might talk to someone about changing his rate.

Does anyone know when they can change their rates? My son said that someone (don't know if it was an actual RDC or another recruit) said that they would possibly have openings in other fields. Has anyone heard something more concrete?
Comment by m'smom on July 22, 2010 at 2:23pm
And it is not too late to RSVP for the Meet & Greet if you haven't done that yet. That can be canceled too.
Comment by diannep on July 22, 2010 at 2:15pm
It is not too early to make hotel reservations. They book up rather quickly (some of them) and have pretty liberal cancellatoin policies. So at least get that booked.
