Liberty is different than Leave.  Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved.  Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to…Continue

Ok thanks for the messages of support. 45 mins until I can get home and check the mailbox. Thanks for posting info from your letters. It helps to know what he has done even if he isn't the one telling me.

oh yes..dont get me wrong I am completely secure with knowing he is taking care of..when everyone asked me when he joined if I wasnt worried I said no, cause I wont have to worry about him like I would in college..I know they make sure he has place to stay, food to eat, and stays out of trouble (well for the most part..lol)
And btw--checked my box- I GOT THREEEEE LETTERS!!! woo hoo
He is doing really good..he's passed all his tests and promoted to E2.. he said PT wouldnt be so bad if a couple in his division would listen..but he told me he was a grad-n-go and he only have Friday after grad with us..but Im not going to complain..I'll take what I get!

7 letters from my son today! Each letter he wrote and told me I would receive in bulk. :-) He seems happy, adjusting now. His letter dated 07/16/10 said week 3 day 6. He has made a good friend first name 'Adrien". Any moms with a son named "Adrien"? KristinaR-he knows your husband too!! Said all of them in their group are Grad and Go. RDC's are ok, has a favorite one. Has done a "watch", passed his swim tests and PFT. said the first few weeks were not good, real tough. But it is getting much more involved and better now. He sounds excited, but is homesick. Hope you all get letters today!

Oh yeah. One more thing. To the mom's who are getting few letters--my son was this way in boot camp as well. Send them a few pre-addressed stamped blank post cards with your letters. It makes it easier for them to drop a few lines on a more frequent basis.

Also, I posted this in the letter writing discussion:
Just an update to this discussion. It might be time to think about including a couple of pages of blank stationary and stamps with your letters. Although someone mentioned that the recruits are provided with stationary when they arrive in b/c--this is true--however, it is about this time that they run out of the stuff and with the pace picking up a bit sending some supplies would be greatly appreciated by your recruit. I am also sending few pre-addressed (to me) to my daughter to have.

The pace will really pick up this week for our recruits. They are beginning to have REAL inspections this week, and this can be nailbiters for the recruit to make sure that every thing is in order. Swim test and initial PFA have both happened, but the gas chamber, pistol quals, and firefighting are some of the up coming activities.

Hang in there moms...I know it is really hard not hearing from your son/daughters. On deployment my husband never wrote alot....but he still loves me...some people just never think about writing..but keep writing to them...they live for it!

Cathy I second your sentiments. As I said before--I know this first hand (because I have worked side by side and been in charge of many of these new recruits)--your recruits are in the most professional and capable hands in the Navy. These individuals who are chosen to be RDCs are some of the best POs and CPOs the Navy has to offer and this is a very difficult duty assignment to accept. And why? Because the Navy depends on THEM to take a civilian and mold them into a SAILOR. It is very important that when this new sailor arrives into the fleet, that he/she is up to task and the mission at hand. So sleep well at night knowing that "no news is good news!"

Oh yes...you will know your sailor. I knew my son from just the shape of his ears. My daughter I will know because she is a very tall gal :-) A mom just knows!

Ok, I still have my "kid in a box" sitting on the table in the living room and haven't been able to unpack it. Maybe this weekend... His brother is hoping to switch rooms, as he has the smaller of the two. I had him pack up his stuff before he left, so he had control over what was kept and what wasnt but I still think that he is going to come running down the stairs, hollering, whats for dinner? Bet hes not doing that now. Lol Each week is getting better, and by the time PIR rolls around, I may actually not be a hot mess. :-)

Jophers - keeping my fingers and toes crossed you get a letter today.
