Liberty is different than Leave.  Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved.  Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to…Continue

Thank you. I am not going to tell him but it is so hard. I am home with my two girls. I some just want a shoulder to cry on. I am scared that i won't grieve quickly enough not to cry when he calls. Sorry to hear about your death. Just every week something would go wrong and i try to remain strong for my girls but when is it ok to let go?

Hi Ya'll, I wanted to drop by and see how everyone was. My son is a week ahead. We got our calls today :)))) 30 min worth. It was great. Trying to keep up with thier days is hard as they sometimes compleate 2 days in one. Sundays don't count and sat are what is called holding, like if they where on #2#4 it would be #2#4 holding. My son loves loves loves the questionaires, as it gets my questions answered, and there easy to fill out and quick. He has enough time to compleate about 4 a week. Sorry to hear about your step-dad, my father in law passed away on the 8th, didn't tell my recruit though. If there is anything that you need or that I can answer for you (i'll try my best) just send me a message, that's the easiest way. It's real hard to keep up with all the groups,he he, they move sooo fast. Hang in there, it won't be long!

KristinaR - so sorry to hear about your loss. I am on a lots of groups and it's amazing how many people have lost loved ones in just the past few weeks. Our prayers are with you and your family. Please consider it carefully before you break the news to your recruit. You know your recruit best, but boot camp is stressful and I just want you to breathe before you decide to call the Red Cross or send the news in a letter. We actually discussed this with our son before he left. He said NOT to tell him if someone died unless it was his parents or siblings.

rynot - I hope you get that letter too! Our mail day was Thursdays, but we are also on the west coast. I was depressed when I didn't get a letter one week, then my mom called and he had written her instead. They only get a small amount of time to write on Sundays, and if they attend church services, even less (and that was my son). I had to forgive him for that, however I did notice that his girlfriend ALWAYS got a letter. Once again, Girlfriend Trumps Mom every time!

I get the no communication and civilian out and Navy in, just doens't make it any easier. I still catch myself looking at the clock, telling myself, if it's past 10, at least his resting, but then when its time to eat, is he getting enough, etc. I know, let go, but this isn't like moving away to college, you can't just pick up the phone. Ok, sorry, feeling a little down and sometimes its just makes it easier to get it out there. My husband was Air Force, and all of his brothers are Navy, one being a Seal, so no pressure there. I know this was his choice, we asked him to wait a year before signing, which he did, make sure you make the decision with a clear head, but again, doesn't stop the mom in me from asking, did he do the right thing. What he wants is Seals and that is so hard and few make it, how will he react if that doens't pan out? He is contracted for Air Traffic Control, and is testing for buds, but worried about his vision. According to several posts, seems to be the theme with recruiters iin telling them not to worry, you'll get what you want.

So, after that depressing ramble, I am hoping and praying for a letter tomorrow, just something to hear that even though it may be tough, ok suck right now, he is ok. I did send a letter for my son to give to someone who may not have anyone writing to them, can't recall where I saw the post, but thought that was a fantastic idea.

My son is ship 4 div 285 PIR 8/27. I was wondering if any of your sailors had gotten paid yet. I know a large portion of their pay probably goes to their uniforms, etc at first, but I thought I might see something in his account after the 15th.

Fantastic, tnpromised! Our sons will be together in schooling for sure. They will be on the same ship working together is the way I understand. I feel relief in feeling more connected with someone my son is with. How long did it take for an opening for ET for your son? Do you know what places they will be going for training? Looking in Wikipedia for Navy occupational ratings, it says ETs train in Naval Training Center Great Lakes and then Naval Weapons Station Charleston in Goose Creek, SC. Does anyone know if this is true?
