Liberty is different than Leave.  Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved.  Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to…Continue

CathyJ - my son is average height and on the skinny side. He gained 10 lbs at bc and looks great! All muscle too, he loved the PT they did daily and misses it right now at A-School - but that's the ONLY thing he misses!

I may not be new anymore, but I have no idea what some of these acroymns mean! Since there are a lot of newbies to both this site and the Navy in general, it would be good to spell the rates (jobs) out. My son is studying to be an IT (Information Technologist) at Corry Station, which is a few miles from NASP (Naval Air Station Pensacola). He was a G&G and knew it within the first week of bc (boot camp).

Cathy: Usually at PIR, you will see the new sailors in GREAT shape. Some lose weight and ALL put on muscle weight. Mine looked great as did most of the others. They are really in great shape! Just wait until you see your son!

MA school is still in San Antonio. The only "A" school that will change in the near future is Corpsmen School. I have a friend stationed as a "C" school instructor (advanced school) in Wichita Falls Texas. They are moving all the "medic" type schools to San Antonio, but not by the time my daughter grads from BC. However, we have hear through the Navy Grapevine(also known as "scuttlebutt") that it may be moved there by the time she graduates. Not holding my breath(I learned this as a Navy wife many years ago) so will will see.

Cathy J: Just so you have your son's rate correct, it is MASTER at Arms. Just preparing you for the "Navy talk" when you get to PIR! :-)

cathyj - how funny! My son is in A-School to be an IT - that scared me when I first learned what IT meant in boot camp!!!

Hey, guess what? There's a brand new PIR group (9-2-2010), so you guys aren't the youngest anymore - which means you are that much closer to PIR. Thought I'd say something to cheer you up!

FYI: Their rate (job) for A-School "shouldn't" change, but the school location could change. Hope that helps the question below.
