3 Letters from my son today!! He talked mostly about all the "shots", how there are 5 SR in his group that are young and not following directions very well. He is hopeful after the IT that was administered extra they will have caught on and will follow instructions from then on. One letter he was pretty down, the next his day was better. He has been to the dentist and will probably have his wisdom teeth removed. Talked also about paperwork for GI Bill completed. Also, he joked about why "pockets" were made? Said, the RDC do not like you to put hands in your pockets. Overall he sounded upbeat. Can't wait to hear from him again!

Hi Jessica

I know too well the feeling as having endured bc myself and yes just like nikosmom said alot of the "boot camp" memories get repressed. I went through all that "boot" mentality again when I became a Chief Petty Officer three years ago. You go from the top of your game as a First Class Petty Officer to the lowest of low as a Chief Select. Again it is the breakdown to be built up again. Nikosmom--yep I remember the days of ironing, folding, and shining boots. I also fondly remember the sisterhood that was built among us gals. It was not always a "piece of cake" but there are some good memories too! :-)

And just let me add again that YES it is the RDC's job to mold these young men and women into SAILORS. However, I know first had that these individuals that have undertaken this task, are the most professional and dedicated people in the fleet. They have been given a seemingly impossible task. But when PIR comes they can be proud in the job just completed in the making of the Navy's newest sailors. Ladies, your recruits are in very good hands.

To all-keep the positive letters flowing...even when your recruit seems down. They really need the encouragement--even when they might feel like the lowest of low. It is really a life changer--ya'll will like what you see at PIR! I am going to walk now before the temp hits a 100+ again today :-)

Jophers: I think you will find the staff friendly at Navy Lodge from what others have said. You probably booked through a national reservations line, so "that person" wouldn't be there. Loved what your son said about the RDC but especially what you said back! And you are exactly right! He is just doing his job, and in the end, the recruits respect these guys when they get to PIR and realize that this is what the purpose was of the RDC's job.

TxNavyMomWife: I remember reading a blog somewhere written by someone who had been through Navy bc and this person said that by the 3rd week, you are pretty much convinced that you cannot do anything right in bc! So what your daughter is feeling is totally normal. That is part of the plan (the "breakdwon"). The "build back up" starts about week 4 of bc and it gets better then. My son said the same thing.

Good message, Jessica!

Jophers: He probably won't receive pay today...at least, not in his account. My son went in Nov 23 and the pay didn't hit his account until the first of January. It takes about 5-6 weeks before the pay comes in, but then all of it is there (less uniform deductions). They get paid the 1st and the 15th after that.

OK booked the hotel, I am going to stay at the Navy lodge, and my flights, now just a car. I booked over the phone and it was the most unwelcoming reservation I have ever made. I hope the hotel staff are a little freindlier

Is today their 1st pay day. My son has left me with many of his bills to pay and I though they got paid on the 15th and 30th.

rynot--my daughter is on Ship 6 div 941. W received a letter from her today as well. She seems pretty up beat and anxious to get the training under way. There is a lot of mixed feelings that the recruits are feeling right now as they try to sort out what they are supposed to do. My daughter says she is trying to listen more and talk less and that she wishes some of the others in the div would do the same. All in all she sound pretty upbeat!

Rynot, my son wrote and told me the RDC was a dick!!!! I wrote back and told him he was being paid to be a dick. I too got something a little different that what his girlfriend got. Maybe they are trying to be strong for you.!!! Now thats a turn of events. They are turning into men. My son is in your son's division and he said they were coming to gether as a group and he had made some great friends. These guys and gals will learn to lean on each other. They will never need us in the same way after boot camp, they have learnt to relay on others.

KJ's Mom: Look up the Meet N Greet to the right of this page in the "events" section. Just click on "next month," then "26". The Meet N Greet comes up. You should be able to RSVP on there. There is also a discussion about it started at the top of this page.
I hope your mother continues to improve!
