I am writing and posting the lyrics to a song with so much meaning to me and my son. I think of him as a man everytime I listen to this. We have shared this song together for a year. I swell with pride when I listen to this and think of him. Does anybody else have a special song with meaning for their child/ loved one who has made this great commitment.
Jo

The song is called Second Chance by Shinedown.

My eyes are open wide, by the way I made it through the day,
I watch the world outside, by the way I'm leaving out today,

I just saw Hayley's comment,she waved,
said why are you always running in palce
Even the man in the moon dissapears, somewhere in the stratosphere,

Tell my mother, tell my father, I 've done the best I can,
To make them realize this is my life,
I hope that they understand,
I'm not angry, I 'm just saying
sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

Please don't cry one tear for me,
I'm not afraid of what I have to say,
This is one and only voice,
so listen close, it's only for today,

Tell my mother, tell my father, I have done the best I can,
To make them realize this is my life and I hope that they understand,
I'm not angry, I 'm just saying
sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

This my chance, here is my chance

rynot: I worry more about the recruits that tell their parents during the first few weeks that they LOVE it. Because that would be odd. It is not set up for them to "love it." The first few weeks are the hardest...they are breaking them down, getting the civilian out of them, and building them back up, military-style. I think it's funny how he told your 3 family members 3 different things! He obviously didn't want Mom and Dad to worry about him, but felt he could be honest with his bro! Don't worry...it gets better for him and for you too. By the 4th week (5th week after he left since processing week comes first), they are settling in much more, the letters and phone calls start coming, and life is good again!

Thank you nikosmom for praying for our family, Grandma needs all prayers right now, and for KJ as he is very close to her.

My son has commented that it is hard, but has said he is getting it. This second letter he added on to say he thought everyone was getting better, including himself, at doing what they are supposed to do. And as you have said, which from your experience it relieves my mind, he stated that BC was not the real Navy. He is looking forward to getting through this step in his career.

CathyJ - my name is Cathy also. Thank you for your comment picturing us all holding hands as it be on the internet, as they are in their circle of prayer each night. Faith is what pops in my mind time and again during my son's training and my mom's fight for survival.

Just got our letter for the week and I don't know how to feel about it. He sent letters to all of us, told his brother it sucks, told dad its ok, told me hes doing well. I'm new to this, no one on my side of the family is military and my husband, but a long time ago. Is this normal, I would think they wouldn't like it the first few weeks. Am I worrying for nothing?

Also, is there anyone else from ship 6 division 941?

It is so very great to read all of your comments here be so positive. My son is 6'2" and I wonder who is mate is. Does mate mean a bunk mate? I've received his second "real" letter. All seems to be going good and his humor in things has made me feel relief that if he can find humor then all is okay. His Ship 4/Div 285 team seems ahead of others from first letter. He kept asking for letters in this second letter as that is "the only outside source of stuff". He'll be surprised to finally get his letters, one each day since form letter from me and others in the family.

I am so grateful that his division has prayer circle at night and from reading your comments that all come from good at heart people and people he is teamed with. I have too picked up gallon green tea bottles, etc out of his room. I laughed at his first letter that he thought folding clothes and making racks as they want it sucked. But that his knuckles were rubbed raw from trying to become faster at making his bed.

I haven't seen anywhere that I can RSVP for the Meet N Greet. Please tell me where to do this. He wanted his grandpa (my dad) to attend with us as they are close and his grandpa was in the Army Air Corp b/f Air Force after WWII.

I don't know how much I can express my sincere gratitude to all of you that are on here to help or just talk. My mother, (KJ's grandma) coded the second time the same day he left for BC, but is back and I am working with her daily to recover (took FMLA from work), so I haven't been able to be on here or able to comment as much as I want. Since I am a newbie, I don't understand a lot in what anything is about or what to do for our group so you may need to hold my hand somewhat. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I can't remember who started the Meet N Greet (as I didn't want to go back b/c of one Mom saying you lose all), but thank you. Our sons/daughters are in the best of hands and will become better for it. I am so thankful for such a Christian group here in believing and having faith. Prayers for ALL.

TitanMom - My son's PIR is 8/27/10 - but he's in Div. 286. I hope he's in as good of a group as 285. Reading the comments below - it sounds like a great group.

KristinaR- I found it easier to call the Lodge, then to try to do it on line. Anyone else?

I am glad to hear that our sons are in a good group. That may be why the RDC is being good to them.
rominpa- Welcome-most of us are division 285 but you are welcome here. There may be others that will join from your division. Please tell us about your recruit.
