another piece of advice...start reading PIR groups ahead of yours, they are filled with valuable information. They are a little ahead of you and discuss things that you will also begin to discuss. Most of what I learned I learned from reading PIR 6/25, 7/1 and 7/9 (there is NOT a PIR Group for 7/16, because its a "time off" there are NO graduations that week)
My SR has PIR on 7/23! And I am so ready!!! Getting so excited to get to do the single digit countdown!

Hi Ladies I was asked to come over here and try to explain the days of the week in BC..... so I'll give it a shot.

You know I honestly never totally figured out the day and week counting thing myself, but this is what I do know each division starts on a different day of the week (I think) I think they start counting at the end of P week. Whatever day that falls on then it starts Week 1 -day one, week 1 day two..... 3, 4 and 5 Then Week 2- day one, Week 2 day two and so on......... There are only 5 days counted in the week. Then it starts over. Sunday is called "Holiday" and I do not believe its counted in the days of the week (even though they do some work on that day, just not as much- they can go to church in the moring if they want)
I know for sure that Saturdays are a normal "working day". As much as we' LOVE to know exactly what they are doing on any given day or in a particular week we simply CANT. (phone calls are the best way to get a timeline) Unless each sailor writes home and gives a calendar of events for their div and most recruits dont do that until like near the end.
The most valuable piece of advice I have for moms who REALLY want to know is to *remember at that VERY FIRST phone call the FIRST question you ask is What week and day is TODAY, then you can sit with a calendar and map it out. But that advice needs to be CLEARLY visable on the DEP group AND BC moms. Because by the time you get to your PIR group, you have other things on your mind.

The letter writting "conversation" back and forth with your SR gets very disjointed. Because once they start recieving mail at about the 3rd week in, the letters they get to write on Sunday get to you on Wednesday or Thursday (sometimes Friday) of the SAME week they write but our letters to them can take as much as 10 days on average to get into their hot little hands! Its NOT that they are "holding them back on purpose" its just that the tons of mail they get up there takes more time to be sorted through. The outgoing mail doesnt need "sorting". Piece of advice, be SURE to write your SR to confirm WHO you need on the PIR list if its going to change from what they sent in the FORM letter. The RECRUIT had the FINAL say but if you want to make a "request" to your SR get that request sent ASAP. They have to turn in a FINAL list that CANNOT be changed. Somtime late in week 6 (I think)

Hello KJ's Mom, Welcome to the group! I have found it very informative and supportive. My son is also ship04/division 285. Isn't it comforting finding out that our sons are working through BC together?
Comment by KristinaR(Divison 285) on July 10, 2010 at 11:22pm
They say they get sometimes mandatory 2- 3 calls. The rest depending how they earn it. Some had 12 calls and some had 2. These are all different stories. Hopefully we get one soon. I need it extremely bad.

Does anyone know if we can expect any phone calls during basic? I heard that they would get certain days of the week and then I heard you will only 2-3 total?
