Hi Gwyn - I did see that story! The guys that did the actual rescue is what my son will be doing when he's through with school - he's halfway through. BUTTT the rescue is actually an effort of all of our fine men and women at sea! How proud you must be! Here's the article for those that didn't see it:

Hey guys! There's a group on here - Molly's Adopt a Sailor. They are very active sending packages to our troops. They're in a contest to win $25,000 to donate to their cause......every box sent costs $12.95 each...that's just postage. Can you imagine how much the money would help? Right now, everything is out of pocket so $25,000 would go a lonnnng way.
Pls vote daily - right now we're in 5th place - vote and bump us to 1st! Thanks!

Hi Ladies, finally getting a chance to check in. jfree, is son's ship part of the pack that travels with the Ike? My daughter got home from a 7 month deployment on July 28th, she's on the Ike. I was there, it was truly amazing. She took some time off while I was there in VA and she will be coming to CA to see the rest of the family in Nov for Dad's birthday. It's so nice knowing she's on US soil for awhile. Take care everyone.

Alicia, blessings to you and I hope you are doing as well as you can be as I'm sure everyone is adjusting. Your children are beautiful and the photo of D helping his sister brought tears to my eyes... Thank you all for your kind words. I do enjoy hearing from all as to how everyone is. The time we spent together last year created a bond that I still enjoy today.

This is pic of my son's graduating class from Rescue Swimmer School in Pensacola - in April. When you're looking at the back row....at the guys in the little shorts (the other guys are instructors), he's the 4th one from the right. Tall, dark hair. Was just looking at it and thought I'd share with ya'll....see you guys later!

MommyBecky, what a beautiful picture! The other day my son sent me a text and said "Do you know what today is?" And, of COURSE I did! It is amazing - on one hand it's gone very quickly. On the other hand, this year has been a big adjustment for me......in fact, I'm still adjusting with him not being home. He's my youngest and I now have an empty house. I will say it's been good for me and Hubby. We've been married for 5 years (our second marriage each) and we've always had kids around. And now that we don't, we focus more on each other and this I've enjoyed! My oldest son, who is a corpsman, will be moving to Ft Worth next month (Carswell base) and I'm really excited he will be close. At least I will have one of my sons close. I haven't seen my rescue swimmer since Christmas. As I said earlier, he graduates from his platform school end of this month and goes to San Diego for FRAC. We thought he'd be able to come home between schools cuz there has been a long hold time in between for others. Not so for us......I was real "up" for him when he told me but hung up and cried. It will be Christmas when I next see him. And that will be one whole year. Unless I win the lottery and become RICH and then I can fly to see him whenever I want, LOL! I do miss him but I'm very proud of him as I know we all are of our sons and daughters AND hubbies. Yes, let's all stay in touch cuz I do love hearing about everyone!

YAY for Grandma! I'm envious - that is so exciting! Alicia, is your son still stationed in San Diego? My youngest will be graduating end of July from his third school in Pensacola and going to San Diego in August for yet another school.

Hi ladies, it's been awhile since I checked the site. Can you believe it's almost a year since our Sailors left for BC. I still remember the night when I left her for BC, the Sunday night after her PIF and then when I left her at the airport after her leave last Dec.
Gwyn, the Truman relieved Jennifer's ship the Ike. She left Jan 2nd for Deployment and I will be there for Homecoming.

What an accomplishment! It's cool that you were able to sew his crows on - I can't wait to pin the wings on my son!
