I just came back from PIR on 5/21/10 and wanted to share some info with this group. If you do visit Navy Pier, there is a huge anchor statue that provides a great picture opportunity especially since your sailor will be in uniform. There is also a USO at the Pier. You can stop by, sign in, and grab some water, juice, coffee, and snacks like cookies, chips and candy. It's all FREE. They are so nice in there. They just told us to open the refrigerator and help ourselves to anything we liked. Way better than paying for a $4 bottle of water. They also have couches and a tv so you can take a breather from the scorching sun or walking around.

They'll also provide you with great pamphlets and a sheet that shows where your sailor gets in free or with discounted admission. Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) was free for my sailor.

Hope this helps and have a great time at PIR! You're going to love it!

Lori, ColoMom and Dawn...as promised...I have posted a photo of myself with my phone strapped to my head on my "home page"! It's VERY ATTRACTIVE!!! (Actually, not so much...did you know that the strap can really mess up the hair?? And the lighting in my office is aweful....AND my make-up is looking pretty wiped out....) But I thought I'd be a "trooper" and still post the silly photo of me!

WAITING AND WAITING AND WAITING and PRAYING FOR THE PHONE CALL NOW....my heart keeps jumping to my throat.

Please Lord keep all of us safe and give us traveling mercies coming and going in jesus name amen. This was my very first time flying to the mainland ever, it was 9 hours long but we survived. Bring a favorite book to read and snacks if your flight is a long one. The best is yet to come :)

We've almost made it. We only need to get through this last white-knuckled night...praying for our recruits for the strenght and determination to make it through this final challenge of this leg of their journey. You have been incredible and I have appreciated you all....your strenghts, your weaknesses, your excitement and your fears....I knew that I was not alone. See you all in Chicago. Can't wait to see you all and hopefully meet your SAILORS too!!
