I just got a letter from my son today and it was short and to the point. It said he got bad news. He found out that he was shipping out at 1am on Saturday morning. I am trying not to let this get me so down but it is. I miss him so so much and the thought of saying goodby to him so soon after grad. is breaking my heart. I was given the wrong information when I called the public affairs office the other day. Looks like div. 253 is grad and go. I will pull myself together and have a wonderful time next week and enjoy every minute we do get to spend together. Best wishes to all of you and your Sailors....

Hey it's ok, my is grad and go as quite a few others in 256. We have to drive 16hrs. to get there. I was not happy at first, but I told my husband I don't care if it isn't but two hours, I get to see his face. At least we can spend some time at the airport with them. I wrote and told him to write down which airport, airline, time plane leaves, so we can meet him. We will at least be able to give them there cell phones at the airport, so we can talk to them when we want to. At least that is something to look forward to, since we don't get the whole weekend. My is leaving 2am Saturday morning, but I did read that they sometimes push it up to 5am, which I hope they do.
I feel the same way as you do, at least we get to see his face, its just hard when we are missing them so much,I am also hoping for a delay with the flight time. I will take what ever time we can get. It is going to be so much better when we can talk on a regular basis...
Oh NOOOO! This is horrible! I can't believe it. I am flying up from Florida, hotel from T'hursday-Monday already paid for and didn't realize was non-refundable. And now to know I get to sit there and think about how much I miss my son and was looking forward to seeing him for a few days... yes, I will LOVE the small amount of time I have with him but, really?? How and where can I find out something, anything about my son and what time he is leaving? He is in div 253 also. I am just heartbroken now:(
I am also flying in with my husband and younger son for 4 days thinking we would have the weekend with our sailor, I was heartbroken, Cried for a long time. I spoke with Ryan today after battle stations, Congrats to all of them for making it. I felt like a new woman when I finally heard his voice. He did tell me the div. is grad and go. They will not have their orders until monday. Lets just hope for a delay with the flight plans and enjoy the time we have with them. You Can try to call the public affairs office but they game me the wrong information and sent me on an emotional rollar coaster...I guess when they get their official orders is the only way to know for sure. We did get good new from our Sailor that made me feel so much better, he will get a leave for 2 weeks in september.....Good Luck and Congrats to your son
I DIDN'T WANT TO BE THE ONE TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE. MY SON IS A LEADER ON SHIP 10 DIV 253 AND ONE OF HIS LETTERS SAID HE'D BE LEAVING SAT IN THE AM. I WAS HOPING FOR YOUR SAKE THAT NOT EVERYBODY WAS IN THE SAME BOAT (NO PUN INTENDED). HE LEAVES AT 3 AM. I'M STILL GOING TO BE IN CHICAGO UNTIL SUNDAY. HOPEFULLY WE CAN MEET AT THE MEET AND GREET ON THURS. AT THE RAMADA. YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME NEXT WEEK- JUST KNOW YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WISHING FOR MORE TIME. TAKE CARE.
Please thank your son for me on leading the Div to the finish today. I know there are many parents and family members all dealing with missing them and not having the time we were all hoping for. I have adjusted to the fact that we will have friday and I will enjoy every minute of it. I will be at the airport until he departs. My son mentioned to me today on the Phone that he made some really great friends. I am looking forward to the meet and greet and the bid day on Friday. Best wishes to all.
