My son is in Div 937. I don't know about the rest of the div, but he is grad and go. He wrote in a letter that he needs to check into his A school at GL, and then will be free the whole weekend. But I understand there are several types of grad and go.
BeautifulStanger...where is he going to A school at? It sounds like div 937 is G&G

My son is also DIV 937. My son is expected to report for A School, Corpsmen Training right away after graduation this Friday, but will also have the weekend off. I assume you'll be there too. Is your son staying in Great Lakes also? We heard DIV 937 will be helping in the stands, not marching in with the rest of the grads. Any idea how long it lasts - I know they mention getting there early. Where are you coming from? We're in Denver.
ya'll need to get to the grad hall early at least by 630 or 7, need photo id to get in, starts at 0900 ends around 1030 or 1100
sblahana looks like your Sailor is G&G...so just in case have extra clothes, pjs toothbrush for ovenights. Bring laptop and cell phone for use at A school.
sblahana-- My son is going to corpsman training at GL, also. We're coming from Houston; staying at the Springhill Suites in Gurnee/Waukeegan from Thursday - Monday. I had no idea 937 was not marching in, but my son is a side boy - part of a formation at the drill hall entrance which salutes high-ranking officials as they walk in. Do you know when BS-21 is/was? Someone mentioned maybe it was last night. Haven't gotten my call yet.
Hello Houston! Yes, got the call from Ken and they passed BS-21 last night. Had been up since 5:30am yesterday and sounded happy but exhausted! My son is a "Body Snatcher" - circulating within another Div to attend to anyone who faints. We're staying at the Quality Inn in Waukeegan and get in Thurs, leave Sun. My son isn't sure if he can stay off base with us Saturday night, but know he can't Friday night. Are planning on going into Chicago Saturday to take River boat tour and maybe go over to Navy Pier. When your son calls, decide on a meeting place for after graduation, as I heard everyone heads down to the floor and it can be mass confusion, since they will all look alike.
sblahana- My son Jason called about 5 minutes after my first reply to you. He was just bursting his buttons! We all got teary-eyed while talking to him. He sounded exhausted, too. We decided on a meeting place. It probably is the same place that a trillion other sailors will meet loved ones. I'll have to rely on him to find us! Can't wait to see Chicago with him. It seems a lot of attractions let the sailors in for free. They can go to a White Sox game for free. I wish the Cubs were in town, I'd rather see them! Congrats to all the new sailors!
Great news! I didn't realize sailors would get free admission to some things. Yes, we wanted to see a Cubs game too, but they're playing here in Denver! Ken ran through his list of what he wants us to bring, but decided the computer would wait until we get back and have an address to ship it to. Definitely wants his contacts and one set of casual clothes. Called all the relatives after we heard from him to tell them he's officially a sailor too! Congrats to your son and all the rest! Have fun!
Jessica B his A School is at GL. Sblahana, I'm also in Denver but unfortunately I'm unable to attend the grad. Its a little upsetting. And I'm not a mom I'm actually a Girlfriend. I'm having a hard time with not going simply because I'm not sure when ill get to hear from him and if he only has like one chance to call me and I miss it because I'm at work I'd be heartbroken!
Am I to understand that after BS they are kind of free until grad? Or am I misunderstanding something?
HI there, and sorry to hear you'll miss graduation. I missed my son's first call. So he called his Dad, then girlfriend and then got me the second time. I think they were given a certain time to call, but not sure if they get a second chance if they don't reach someone. Sorry, wish I knew more. Is your boyfriend going through Corpsmen training also? Ken said they'd all been sick round and round since BC started. Germs just kept cycling through the building. They are not free after BS until grad, Ken said he's still busy and not even sure if he can spend the night off the base Fri or Sat. Are planning on going into Chicago with him on Saturday, maybe Sunday, but still not sure how much time he has each day with us yet. I wish you and your sailor the best!
