I am a mom who has a son PIR on 11/6. I live near by RTC and has been in the area over 15 years. I thought I might be helpful for anyone to arrange for PIR travels. I suggest to use lastminute.com. You can book airline/hotel or airline/rental car comb for a unbelievalbe tickets. But you can only book them no earlier than two weeks ahead, in our situation, it is a perfect time (that is when your kids passed their battle stations). I also suggest you to stay in down town chicago. The Metra station to RTC in only <5mins walk (I did today personally just to confirm it). I think your kids want to see the city if they never been there. If you do choose to stay near by RTC, I suggest Gurnee, Libertyville, or Vernon Hills, these three town. Avoid Waukegan, North Chicago area.

If you have any questions, feel free to post it and I will try my best to answer them.

P.S. I saw one division march across Rt 137 through tunnel, just can't see the #. Based on the way they walk, I am sure are kids only been there within a couple weeks. It looks like their RDC are vey nice to them when correct their marching.

I will try to find time go there more often to share what I see with all of you.

For more details about hotels, please refer to my reply on 9/27.

I add more dinning information to my reply on 9/28.

Hello, thank you so much for all this information. I am looking to stay at the Ramada Inn, 200 N Green Bay Road. Do you know if it's a good area or not? They offer a "Naval Graduation Rate Discount" and a room with 2 queen beds is $83 per night.

My son is in division 385, he enlisted with his best friend and they have only been there about 2 weeks. Please let me know if you happen to see his division, it may sound crazy but just knowing someone else can see him will help.

Once again thank you so much for your assistance.
Thank you for this info-but I am a bit concerned. I am booked at the Quality Inn in Waukegan. Is this a bad area or something? It says it's 3 miles from the base. We were more interested in getting together as a family than site seeing a city but I don't want to be in a bad neighborhood either.
Hi and thank you for your willingness to watch and post what you see. My son left for BC on 9/11/09 of all days and the letter says graduation is Nov 6...but that is not a guarantee though. I am single, lost 2 jobs in one year when daughter was extremely ill with "ulcerative colitis" and finally had whole large intestine removed and is doing much better now, but not being able to find work I also lost my home of 16 years that my "recruited" son grew up in, so before he left I was given the cold shoulder and have been blamed for not trying hard enough to find work...if he only knew... I cannot control the economy! I am a Realtor above Atlanta, but I would take a job being a dishwasher somewhere just to be able to see my son graduate. Do you know of any hardship organizations that help hardship cases such as this. I have let him down by losing his home and I do not want him to think that I did not try everything possible to attend his graduation. If anyone knows of anything that I could explore, it would be so appreciated!!!
P.S. I do not know how to use this website yet, this is the first time I have written anyone, so I don't know if only you will see or the whole world wide web...please let me know
Thank you for your time and feel free to send this on if you think it will help.

I sent you a friend request. I have a couple of ideas:):)
I would love to hear them. i just finished reading another wonderful review from someone that stayed at The residence Inn @ Waukegan
I sent you a friend request. Yes the whole wide web can see this post. I am above the Atlanta area-and if you're in realestate in this area you're hurting. :-( If you don't get the answers for help, try the boot camp group...someone someplace had previously posted how to get help-but I don't remember where the post was.
I am very sorry to hear your story, even though I know you are not the only one went through this at this time. When it hits you, that's it. I will talk to somebody at local church for you to see if they can help. The two churches that I have connection with are Village Church of Gurnee (vcg.org) and Willow Creek (http://www.willowcreek.org/home1.aspx). You can also contact them directly. I knew they are very good at helping people. Also, I heard RTC also have connections with local charity groups that helping recuite's family. Please try to contact them as well (try this phone # to start with: 847-688-2405)
Good luck.
ilovemyson,

I spoke to the pastor who is in charge of community service and he said you can contact him directly. His name is Brand Smith (847-244-6606 x 117). He will connect to you somebody that maybe able to help. Good luck and keep me updated.
I booked at the residnce Inn @ Waukegan. is this a mistake? I chose it because they have two bedroom suites and my son's girlfriend will be traveling with us.I also had read very good reviews of it on this website. Should I look elsewhere? So if i choose to stay in Chicago I can walk to the metro and from a hotel and then it takes me 5mins from the RTC?
I also question the area, I have been looking into the Ramada (Waukegan) and the Red Carpet Inn, is this not a good idea?
Hello,
My name is Suzy and I wondered if you knew anything about the NAVY Lodge?
I emailed someone I know who lives in Chicago. 20 min away from Waukegan. She said parts of it can be bad but wasn't sure near the base and would look into it. I also read part of Waukegan was once a supersite. Oh the things we shall see! lol
