OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option.

~It is also a good idea to change your visibility settings for your Profile Page (MY PAGE) to "Just my friends".

Thanks Ladies...at least that is a guideline!!  My son never told me a date to stop writing either.  I write every day so I will keep them here and give to him later.  My son never told me he wouldn't be writing either.  At least we don't have too long to wait now!!

Really? My son didn't tell me not to write....
He did tell last Sunday would probably be the last time he was going to be able to write though.

My SR told me not to write after 6/16. So I told everyone to have their letters postmarked by this date. Somewhere I had read that one mom still kept writing to her SR every day but kept them until after PIR and gave them to him at the airport so he could read them on the plane :)

Does anyone know if mail will be forwarded to the A schools once our sailors have left boot camp?

Comment by Chronicles16 on June 7, 2017 at 1:02am
So true, Auntie- What ship? Div? Is your SR?

Hi gxginn, my nephew is also NUKE. I'm so exited for him. It has been a tough go for all of the SR. Looking forward to the PIR and also the meet and greet. We will have four family members. Looking forward to meeting all of you.
