OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option.

~It is also a good idea to change your visibility settings for your Profile Page (MY PAGE) to "Just my friends".

Carlsbad92009, Our daughter also Ship 3, Division 195.  If you're at the Meet and Greet, let's meet up for sure.  Wearing flowers?  It doesn't sound like  sit-down thing where we'll be organized by divisions.

What are the odds?

About 1 in 87.

My daughter is in Ship 3 Division 195 we will be at the meet and greet, can't wait to meet everyone! I hope the next few weeks goes by fast:) My daughter was originally scheduled to graduate June 9th but was held back two weeks. Her original division was a push division and was moving at a pace that was too fast for her. We talked to her earlier in the week and it sounded like she was doing much better, I am glad she is getting more time!

@brynne21 yes I saw the info on meet and greet but unfortunately we have a conflict. I will be with all you moms in spirit!

A small world?  Oh yes!

SJWit and I have been communicating, and during calls from our sons yesterday, we realized that they are actually bunkmates!  Go figure!  What are the odds?

In other news - my son seems very happy and content with where he is in the process, and with his decision to join in general.  I am sleeping much better after yesterdays call as opposed to the one three weeks ago, which was difficult and emotional.

He says he will be leaving "stupid early" on Saturday for the airport and that we should have a little time there.

Anyone else have experience with this?

It did say in the Family guide that we can't escort them, but we can meet them there.

I still feel like such a newbie!

Thanks and best to all -

MOZZIE
