Hi there!

My son's PIR is August 3. We'll be at the ceremony (yay!) on Friday and want to book our Saturday flights home from the same airport he'll be using to fly to San Antonio, with the hope we might get a little more time to hang out together while he waits for his flight.

Does anyone know which airport is used?

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Thanks for the info!

They can fly out of O'hare or Midway. Only your Sailor will know his particular flight details. Also know that Sailors going to the same School may fly out on different flights and even from different airports because it all depends on flight availability. Also know that some may fly out on Sunday or later, although most will fly out sometime on Saturday, if there is a flight availability issue. Book your flight for late Saturday or on Sunday if you are able to do that.
Is your son going to be an HM or an MA?

Thanks for the response! We planned to fly out around 730pm on Saturday. Hopefully that'll give us time to see him off and get to our flight (and airport if that's the case).

My son is going to be an HM :)

Thanks again!

There are lots of groups for HM.  Here are some you can check out and join the one/s that meet your needs:  HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio, Sailors in A School for Corpsmen, Corpsman Moms, and Corpsmen Moms and Dads.

Wow! What a great resource. Thank you for sharing these with me. I'm still learning to navigate around this site and I really appreciate you pointing out this stuff :)

My son's PIR was April 13th. He flew out of Midway on April 14th to SA. They transported the sailors to the airport at 4:00 am saturday morning, we met him there and were given gate passes to be with him at the gate. Try to be at the airport when the sailors arrive so you will be able to go to the gate with him.  It is weird some did fly out of O'Hare and their is no way to find out till a day or two before PIR.

Thank you for the info! My goodness the Navy likes early mornings, don't they? :) Very cool that you got to hang out with your son at the gate! That's what we're hoping for, too.

Take care,

~t
