Graduating sailors are likely to have time during liberty after PIR to leave RTC. How much time they have will depend on their RDC's, when they depart for A-School, and where they are going for A-School. Some who are staying at Great Lakes for A-School or ATT (Grad 'n Go Sailors) may even get to spend the weekend nights with their families. Others only have a few hours (Saturday Departures) before they have to head for the airport. Some families meet up with their sailors at the airport to see them off and have a few more hours with their sailors. Your SR will give you more information at some point during boot camp and the day of PIR.

Grad 'n Go Sailors who are staying at Great Lakes for further training, must check out of RTC and check in to the Naval Base before liberty is granted. They are told then how much liberty they will have. You may have to wait up to 5 hours before your sailor calls you and is ready to be picked up.

Any moms who have had this experience, please post details. Thanks!

YMM(ship 12 Div 98) You are correct...I did not hear anything about my sons liberty until we were through with PIR . Trust me you do not want to have too many plans in concrete..their RTC can change liberity right till they are through the doors like my sons did... Their only last control is their liberty privilege..AND they do!! Rent your car from ACE..CHEAP at $18 a day very nice folks to deal with also! Let your sailor decide what is liberty cause YOU may be surprised ...they have truly changed in what is important to them!!  mine wanted food, movie and US!! Not the same young man that went in!!LOL

Effective Immediately:

New Sailors reporting to TSC GL from RTC after PIR will no longer have overnight liberty, they will be in Phase 1 and treated as such; with the exception they can leave the base only if their family is here and they must have approval from the Barracks LCPO.  They MUST return to the base and barracks EVERY night at the time told to them by their COC in the barracks.

 No overnights no exceptions.

I find it so hard to believe they won't allow Sailors to spend even one night with their wives after NINE weeks of being apart. So much for a morale boost to get us through the first month of A school. I wonder why they changed the policy and why they don't have exceptions for married Sailors.
It is disappointing to everyone. The change in policy has been confirmed by Captain Lintner on the Training Support Command Facebook wall. Maybe by the time your husband graduates, they'll have reversed it. What we don't know is why he felt in was in the Navy's best interest to change the policy. Maybe if he hears from lots of families requesting that he allow overnight liberty, he'll be persuaded to change it. It's worth a try.

Here's the link to TSC's Facebook wall. Maybe you could ask there or visit their website for a contact number. Remember that Facebook is read by many, so be cautious of what you post.

This was posted on the TSC Facebook wall about 12 minutes ago. Here's everyone's chance to be heard.

Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes I am trying to determine what people have been told by whom. It is not my intent to affect people who were told they would have liberty. I need to know who told them. The new plan will go in affect but I did not want to impact people with plans. Still working this. Talk to me folks. Who told your sailor they would have liberty.

He is asking for more input from families affected by this policy change (See above). Maybe he'll reverse it. If you get a chance, it'd be good to reply Cpt Lintner's post on the TSC Facebook wall.
As of March 3rd, the SR's still think they're allowed overnight liberty. I hope those in charge have passed along the change in policy to the divisions as well... would be a shame for them to find out through a letter and word of mouth.

TSC Liberty Policy

Skipper Lintner the liberty policy will be that the new students have liberty until 9:pm on Friday. They will get to go back on liberty at 7:30 Saturday but will have to return by 9:pm. Same thing on Sunday. This is a Command decision made for the purposes of equal treatment for RTC graduates coming to TSC. I realize it may not be a popular decision for everyone but its onethat I feel is in the best interest of the Navy.March 4 at 4:46pm

It takes times for SA's to actually leave the base for liberty. We expected to pick up our SA at 7:30 am, but by the time he was released, walked to the gate, got in our car, drove back to his new ship, and signed him out, it was around 9:00 am.

TIP - Plans can change and waiting for your SR can be awhile. Be flexible!
